Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
@Burly Upon closer inspection, I actually ignored your question in the OP.
When lonely in the wilderness, some times I get out and walk around, and take in the small details. I don't know if you're religious, but I find these lonesome outings to bring me to a closer relationship with God. The...
@Moment4Life They're more common than you'd expect, the only issue (for them!) is that they usually don't want to waste the time and money working on their own rig. You take them out in your rig, they get to go wheeling for free - win for you, win for them!
Not to detract from @Burly 's point...
@Burly I often find myself in the same situation, particularly post-breakup (used to share pics from my outings with the GF).
There is the constant motivation to explore and discover, but there is also a yearning to share the experience. And it isn't to share thoughts and observations...
@davidaus Oh, nice! I'm lifting mine 2" as well; 31's are probably as big as I'll go, don't want to regear another truck so I'm stuck with 3.23's. RIP.
True, about aftermarket support for these. Shame, kind of.
@Carnage_95YJ That would be a great way for those a bit closer to familiarize themselves with one another (rigs and driving habits, etc.) before outings!
@JJbyrd Nice! Be on lookout for a Rally Point, I can't post one (guest) but one of my acquaintances plans to post one in the near future.
@Carnage_95YJ Coolio! Looking forward to seeing your Jeep in the flesh. Always been partial to the square headlights.
@slowlane Handy little setup in there! Reminds me of days gone by, camping in the back of my Explorer. Light travel is much more fun; there is less to worry about, and there is a greater focus on the activities rather than car life.
I am planning a trip to North Carolina's Uwharrie National Forest on July 14-16 this year. Anybody who wants to be there, drop me a holla here in this thread!
I have no rules except what is posted on the trails, and I am not going to lead a group. You're all grown and are responsible for your...
@davidaus Welcome to OB1! That's a fine looking Dakota. I've some experience with the Dakota platform, having owned a 2003 Durango for a few years; they're a very solid platform, although the front end of the frame tends to get gnarled up fairly easily, it seems.
If I might ask, how high is it...
@slowlane Nice ride! It seems that there's a fairly small portion of the community that regularly travels in classic cars. She looks clean, treat her nice but always remember that these machines exist to serve us, we don't exist to serve them! You've got the right mind set.
Custom spring packs are the best way to go. Only you know exactly what you will need; some things can only be known by trial and error (or you get it right the first time!). If you're planning on going to even bigger tires in the future, no measurement can predict where it might scrub while...
@PNW EXPLR I saw your plan to get custom springs; just thought the temporary setup might do better with some thing stiffer.
If you're gonna wheel her on rocks, or ever expect to drag the diff, do the truss. It's cheaper than breaking an axle, getting towed out, and getting a new axle. And much...
@Thomas Hastings Awesome view! The sky sure looks a lot bigger where there aren't trees or buildings blocking every thing. This is God's natural world, the way he meant for us to experience it. Yet so many people spend their lives in comfort and convenience, passively ignoring the magnificence...
@rafael Beautiful machine! Better fasten that little connector below the left side of the front bumper though.
Those particular Cruisers are in very high demand for these purposes. Nice find!
@PNW EXPLR That huge monster of a truck is only running 1/2-ton springs? I'd have thought at least 3/4-tons, may be even 1-tons if you're going to load up with gear/passengers/build the interior. Just a thought - you know your truck better than I!
Truly a magnificent piece though, looks epic...
