Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
I use the Dewalt 20v chain saw. Works great for my needs. I've used it to clear a few small logs on trails. I've mostly used it to process firewood from downed trees at camp though.
I went that route because I already carry a Dewalt 20v impact and charger in the rig.
If you want a good battery that's on mega sale right now, go to aolithium.com
Theyve got their 100Ah battery on sale right now for about 250. I have their battery in my trailer, and it been working flawlessly for about 2 years. It has low temp cutoff and bluetooth as well.
On Amazon, go with...
Decided to go solo camping the Friday after Thanksgiving. It's COLD I the Oregon Owyhees this time of yeah, but the diesel heater kept the tent warm, and the ammo can firepit kept the awning room comfortable.
Well, after completing the bdr over the summer, I will say that the trailer performed beautifully. We had one issue where I noticed the battery wasn't charging when we stopped in Montana before starting the Magruder corridor.
We tracked the problem down to a melted powerpole connector. When we...
Gonna be making my own this weekend. I opted to order the tacticool (though I think that's a dumb name, unless he's intentionally poking fun, then good on him) diy kit.
It'll be here Thursday, so I should have the firepit up and running Friday night.
Thankfully, my 03 Xterra with 150k on it is running great (and my wife's 02 with 250k does as well). We can also still find everything we need.
I've debated picking up a parts car though, as they're getting older, and I'm sure that parts will be hard to find eventually.
We did the same. Drove down to the Oregon/Nevada border Friday night, and we're lucky enough to have the clouds clear enough to see it on Saturday. My 7yo daughter loved it!
I too run a battery in my trailer. 100Ah lifepo4 along with a 20A dc-dc charger mounted in the tounge box. I also have a 20A solar charger in there, that I plug a 120w panel into when needed.
Vehicle connection is handled by a 3 pin anderson plug that connects to either my truck, or my Xterra...
Day trip this time? Either way, count me in.
Edit:
Scratch that. That's Liana's birthday, and there's an event she wants to go to. I'll mention it, but chances are not good.
I use a diesel heater myself. I also have an old catalytic tent heater that does a decent job of heating my awning room. I'll definitely recommend using a diesel heater for the rtt. If you have any insulation at all, a 2kw model will probably be more than enough.
I have the zoleo. It works great. I bought it based on the recommendation of a friend of mine who has one. Honestly, I feel like the biggest advantage of the zoleo vs the inreach is that zoleo gives you a dedicated number that doesn't change, so people can text it, just like a cell phone...
