Self Rescue / When all else fails...

I have had a Montague for years and it is fantastic. These are serious bikes, not gimmicky. They were designed and built with a DARPA grant from the defense department. They were made for Paratroopers (that was the name of the bike as well) so they could parachute in behind enemy lines and have...

    Recovery Kits

I have had so many incredible experiences in 2wd vehicles off the beaten path. I used to bring a cable come-along sometimes just for something simple like light sand in a 2wd. I truly believe that they number one piece of recovery gear is a good head on your shoulders. Sent from my iPhone...

What is the last thing you bought and plan to buy?

Most Eastern Mountain Sports also have equipment for rent. Most of these places not only have tents but kayaks, snowshoes, sleeping bags & other goodies to try out Sent from my iPhone using OB Talk

    Rig sleeping

I'm sure YouTube will have videos but nothing compares to getting some in-person tutelage. Any local sewing machine shop will have a class or someone that will give you a few lessons for what is normally a very reasonable price. Have fun and make sure to post pics of your first projects!

    Rig sleeping

Being able to sleep in my rig was a primary criteria for my selection; the Jeep Commander. I live in South Florida now and spend what averages to a couple of nights a month out in the Everglades every year. Mainly in winter months because summer is an oven at night. I can pull over anywhere on...

What is the last thing you bought and plan to buy?

Just ordered a full set of PowerStop carbon ceramic pads and drilled and slotted rotors today. My Commander came from the factory heavy and under-braked. Now that it will stop when and where I want, I can confidently add some more stuff to it. Sent from my iPhone using OB Talk

Burt, how lucky you are. Granite Falls area is amazing. I lived in Bellingham in the late 90's and my wife and I took every chance we could get (almost every weekend for a year and a half) to explore and get lost on the NEVER ENDING options of forest roads and jaw dropping moments around every turn.

I'm with you; backpacking style equipment has always been the way to go for me as well. Not only is it light, simple, small to pack but sometimes, I end up in some random area, park the truck and head off into the hills (or everglades, or river valley, etc) for a few days and leave the rig...

    Overland Bound Founding Principles

Michael, I am proud to consider myself a part of the OB community that you created. The ideals and principals that you and Corrie have laid out are normalizing and equalizing. It does not matter who you are or where you start, we are all worthy of the journey. And did I mention camaraderie? Even...

    OB members in south Florida

Hey. I'm in Pompano and would love to get together sometime with any of you and FLAWD (love the acronym). I'm often out of the county unexpectedly on business but it looks like I will be around this week and weekend if you want to connect. I haven't been on FB for a few years so, for now, this...
