I second what Ryan said, watch for the SoCal meet ups. Close ones to you have happened in Long Beach and Irvine. I have been to 4 and have met a lot of great people which has led to off-road excursions with some of them.

Bison at Yellowstone, the one just had to roam through the parking lot setting off car alarms and had the dogs in the cars barking like crazy. He just had to get to the other side for the good stuff.

My late wife loved adventures, travel, camping, dirt bikes...... She was a great sport. The long distance driving she did not like so much but did it if necessary. Loved being outside and seeing new things.

Welcome, I am from Huntington Beach and enjoy the same adventures you are talking about. I went with a Subaru Outback with tires and a 2" lift to get me farther into the backcountry. It's working pretty well right now. Hope to see you on some trail runs sometime.
