What makes a car capable enough to join the OB trips?

I think it is knowing your limitations and having gear that will get you out of trouble. Knowing where you are going, and what the capibilities of your rig are. I have a 2wd Nissan Rogue. It is my daily driver, and I have to keep that at the fore front of whatever I do. I would like to do that...

    Interior liner for dogs?

I have been around this block over and over. I have tried lots of different products. So first do you have dogs that shed. This matters, I have two German Shephers and removing hair easily is very important for me. So all the way around I now use Cal Trend Plather seat covers front and rear. I...

    Maxtrax Mounting.

OK here is the set up. I used a 2 1/4 inch multi track rail from Rockler and combinations of 3 1/2 T Bolts, and 1 1/2 T bolts. I mounted the ARB bracket using U bolts to the Yakima rack Once I had this worked out, I mounted the Multi Track to the ARB brackets using the smaller T bolts and easy...

Dana, I am planning on doing just that this weekend, if I can find the T-Rail that I want. Once I get is put together I will post pictures.

    Maxtrax Mounting.

Hey Dana, here you go. I have several on order and already have longer Yakima Bars that I will mount these to for the Recovery Boards. I will likely have to attach an aluminum track bar between them to get the bolts to fit into the boards at the proper location. Such as this one. 48" Aluminum...

    Maxtrax Mounting.

Look this up ARB OS850 Awning Bracket U bolt it to the rack and hang the board off the side with pins. Make sure the length of the bracket will work with your rack. I have mine attached to the cross bars. They extended out a bit from the Load warrior I used.

Roof rack for Tepui Tent on 4runner?

For just the tent you only need a cross bar system. Yakima, Tule and all solid products with a good following. Rino Racks looks interesting, but I don't know anyone with one. I would get the aero type bars. You will need to determine how they will attach to your vechile. REI really is a good...

Roof Rack (Clean looking wire routing?)

All good. Tomorrow I will clean up the edges at the window pillar. Once that is done you really cannot tell the wire harness is there. Now that I have done it, I might start over, and make this a bit cleaner. Although no one notices it now. The plastic wire mesh really looks good. I went to the...

Roof Rack (Clean looking wire routing?)

I have three sets of lights on my vehicle. All Auxbeam, using the Auxbeam wiring harness and interior switch. The wiring harness just made everything easier. I have two light bars mounted at the front, one attached to brackets at my RTT, the other single line LED in my lower grill. At the rear I...

    Top items people carry

So I have something a bit different that's always in my car. I keep a pistol case, push button type, it is cable locked to a secure point inside the vechile out of sight. Here is why. I often go hiking or mountain biking and will gone for hours. Some trail heads are lightly used and thiefs know...

    Nite ize equipment

The cam type I use for lots of things. They are really great for tents or similar. I use them extensively for my RTT ground surround, ground tents, and general camping ties for LED lights. Often I have a standard non cam clip on one end for quick attachment with the cam type oppistie for quick...

    Camo netting for shade

I still have to respectfully disagree, having spent some time working with these. Yes if you really know what you are doing they can be made to work. One year we took a 120 foot one and built a consegratiy structure using it, covering space for about 50 plus people in the desert in harsh, high...

    Camo netting for shade

No I can tell you from first hand experience parachutes are a bad choice. Why? Because they do exactly what they are designed to do, which is pick up and carry any wind, and I mean even the lightest breeze. Thats when thing start go wrong.

    Mountain biking

No older than me, a Slingshot, wow I would frame that one and put it up a wall. My lust was a full suspension Manitou. Going to Moab this year to ride the new trails that I have not seen, since last time some 15 or so years ago. Have fun out there. Oh and armor is your friend.

    battery issues

So not all batteries are sealed, the ones on my 2014 Nissan are not. I am very good about maintenance being done by my dealer. I just happened to check the other day, and sure enough the water levels were low. That might be part of the issue. Even so called sealed type are not always truly...

    Adjustable Cable locks

I have them locking down everything including my RTT, and roof mounted LED light bar. They are all tight under the factory roof rack and RTT so getting bolt cutters in there would not be easy. I also have them for my rack mounted recovery boards, and gas can. These are the light weight cables...

Rooftop Cargo Carrier - Experience Opinions?

I have not been a fan of these, as I have found them to be too restrictive as far as what you can load in them. The advantage is they are lockable, water tight and somewhat more aerodymaic. Friends who have them all wish they had gotten the larger model. I have used in the past a basket rack. So...

OB Approved Tips and Tricks to buying an Overland Rig

Very impressive, and a ton of good advice. Thank you! A friend was just going through the car buying process. We endlessly debated several of your points regarding used. I feel good about your reinforcement regarding my position on many of these. They ended up with a new car after is was all...
