Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Anyone have any experience with the Rand McNally intelliroute TND 730 GPS? I happened upon it for free and it is in working order. I am working on upgrading my nav setup as I typically run off paper maps/atlas's and use Gaia and Google Earth on my iPhone. I have been considering setting up my...
Loving the build! Very DIY-based! I love the rear glass replacement idea. I have been thinking about this on my WJ as I am limited on usable space when I have a full crew with me.
I have noticed on my OME lift that weight distribution plays a HUGE factor in sag. With that said, when I lifted my rig, I needed to replace the spring perches on the front as they're notorious for rusting out. This effectively added 1/4" of lift to the front end. It sat level unloaded with...
I have ran Yokohama Geolandar AT/S on a few different rigs. Great if you stick to gravel and paved roads, but lack real traction in really and mud or off-road. I currently run Falken Wildpeak AT3W's and love them! I have found some of their limits with mud, but then again MT's would have also...
Amsoil is the best IMO but hard to come by in my area. I use Valvoline 75w-140 synthetic in the diffs, mopar tcase fluid for the NP247, and Mobil1 high mile synthetic in the crankcase on my WJ.
Thank you for your input! Luckily I still have life in my OEM bushings. I figure even OEM replacements would improve the overall feel and handling since I just rolled over 160,000 miles on the rig this past weekend.
Until I can afford the fridge, I have toys around with various methods of using a cooler efficiently. Best method so far is having reusable ice packs (i.e. Yeti ice or equivalent), frozen water bottles (great for drinking later on ) and freezing pre-made meals ahead of time for the main...
While I prefer boondocks/dispersed camping, we do not have the public land in Kansas for that. State, county, and city ran campgrounds are all we have. Thankfully my experience with them has not been too terrible. I still opt for the primitive sites based on cost and the chance that I won't have...
I figure I'd just replace the bushings myself and clean up the arms, but factory replacements front and rear are relatively cheap, so I could go that route if needed. JKS makes some good stuff, but I don't think they make the A-arm for the WJ, but IRO does. I like the idea of using factory style...
With the potential of needing new control arms (or at least the bushings), I had a thought about which route to go. Since I'm running an OME spring lift on my WJ, I was able to retain the stock control arms. I knew given the age of the rig that I would have to do something at some point with...
I did have one before. It works but left something to be desired. It was cheap and versatile, but a pain at the same time. I ended up getting an ARB this year and haven't looked back.
I have been an avid Apple user for about 10 years, and nearly 6 of those have been working in an IT role, primarily on Windows-based systems. I work on both platforms, but 99% is on Windows-based because of cost and ease of use. I still have the same MacBook Pro I started out with 10 years ago...
Dog mode for me consists of minimal time in the rig alone, regardless of weather. One dog will find any food not in the cooler and proceed to eat it and any packaging it's in. The other is an energetic velcro dog so he doesn't like being in the rig alone for long. If it's comfortable out, I can...
I found another idea on my 10 day trip to AZ for Expo West and then up to the Grand Canyon. We prepped meals and froze a lot of stuff so it would pack nicely in the RTIC 45qt cooler. We also had 2 soft sided coolers, one inside the other, for keeping things cold but allowing them to thaw as...
Just got in last week some spacers for the rear end to rake it out a little more for weight/towing and an atlas for a recent trip. Next buy will be determined after some troubleshooting on a suspension clunk recently developed after flexing out the front end on the trail. I have determined it is...
Watch:
Jason explains his view of Overlanding and an overland rig well.
My $0.02 is find a rig that can do what you want to do, regardless of what it is. Then find it's limits and things you'd like out of it, then modify. I drive a 2004 Jeep WJ with a short lift and 31" tires. This is plenty...
