Still, modern alloys are FAR better than steels for reasons other posters have mentioned. We always make sure to use anti-seizing grease wherever aluminum and steel will mate up to prevent them from corroding and seizing together.

Steel was it back-the-day. I have bent and repaired a few. But the rims out today are far superior to those old alloy rims..As was stated above you do have to compare apple to apples, some alloys are the same weight as steel. I don't like to run those metal "Snowflakes" some company s put out...
You could have got the axe/shovel holder from Smittybuilt , it wound have fit well and has a way to lock down you gear. I have had bad time with quick-fists that died from the sun
There is a company that makes a adapter to pin the Hi-lift into those shackle points. A guy with the handle of CPO3 works with them and is on Youtube...
I can only attest to the time we used it at the meeting, only the unloaded JKU that it would lift enough to change a tire. We used it on a F150, A Taco, and the JKU....we tried to give it a fair shake .as in a tire change....
