Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance this week and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
I'd like to see yours! Here's a few of mine.
From my first run of the "Texas Hill Country Overland Route" (Austin to Llano)
From the Heart Of Texas Off Road Club "Wine Run"
I was talking with @administrator in messages and an interesting idea was brought up.
I'd like to know how many of you live within range of an Echolink, or IRLP linked repeater?
I'll have to register my trips when we go. I can put the Padre Island National Seashore on the air for both IOTA, and NPOTA. And then when I take the wife out to Big Bend National Park I can put that on the air as well.
This is one of the primary reasons I got the BuddiPole.
Padre Island...
Third Coast FTW!!!! And depending on dates, I could be down for an off the grid! Let's convince the whole Gulf Coast region to Overland to Big Bend!!!! :)
I started my Patch Game....
Installed CBI Ditch Light Brackets and one of two 40w Black Oak Pods
Moved both VHF/UHF Antennas, to the access cab doors.
And started to install my Trail Toys NSA
Still need to put the sticker on the top, fix up the mount now that I've got it mocked up, and...
Natural Bridge Kentucky
When my wife and I went to Natural Bridge in Kentucky back in 2007 she wrote the following diary note to go with this photo.
While hiking in the park, I noticed that the nearest Cell phone reception was 11 miles down the road from where we were.
There’s also a warning...
Overland Radio Gear: (VHF/UHF only in this segment)
Radios for Overlanding fall into two major categories. Handheld Transceivers (HTs) and Mobile Radios.
Handheld Transceivers are effectively "Walkie Talkies" and can run from as inexpensive as $35 per unit for a Baofeng UV-5R all the way up...
Tonight in the rain I installed a set of CBI Off-Road Fabrication ditch light brackets. Which will eventually hold a pair of Black Oak 40W 2" LED Pods (4x 10W Elements per pod.)
Similar to my answer in the HT/Mobile/Both thread. I have HF --> 70cm capabilities. With one exception at 1.25M (220mhz).
I actually enjoy operating HF while I'm at camp, as typically the bands are far quieter than they are while in the City. I also like knowing that no matter how remote I...
I'll start.... I have all of the above in the truck at all times.
My Mobile VHF/UHF is a cross band repeater, so it makes relaying through the truck from an HT possible dramatically improving the performance of my HT when I'm hiking away from the truck.
