  • Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

    MStudt's 01 SR5 4runner

I've learned my lesson with building platforms, and I really enjoy building them. We've put off getting new tires since the 4runner wasn't heading out, and the rear bumper will just make everything a little easier. Plus we plan on getting another 3rd Gen in a couple years, and then we can...

    MStudt's 01 SR5 4runner

Up first is the new sleeping platform. It'll be made from 1 x 1 x .065 box tubing, and will be completely welded. It'll have a 1/2" deck, and some kind of cover for it. The back section will have two 32" long drawers, and a few compartments up front. I should be able to get started on this...

    MStudt's 01 SR5 4runner

So it looks like this thread is coming back to life. Due to recent issues with my wife's Rover, the 4runner now gets to enjoy an adventure. Im not going into details but, the Rover is out and the 4runner is in. The 4runner will be getting a much needed face lift. This is going to be a major over...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

Here's the link. There's a lot in the works right now, and a lot to come of this. This 4runner has taken us all over, and we know the vehicle very well.

That could be the issue, but I'm not sold on it. I'll check it out anyways just to make certain though. If it is the sensor that'll take about a week to get that part in, and that's a week we can't waste right now. It's pretty upsetting, but we're taking it in stride.

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

After a long debate last night we've decided to put the Rover on hold. Time is running out, and we're not willing to jeopardize our travel plans. We'll be storing to Rover at the inlaws, and we'll revisit it at a later date. Now it's time to redo the old trusty 4runner for this thread. Which...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

That crossed our minds too, but we would have other issues with engine performance if that were the case.

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

Both have been done. Each cylinder holds 30lbs of pressure, and the cooling system holds 15lbs of pressure. This engine was rebuilt with flanged liners so we know there isn't a slipped liner. We had that issue on our last engine, and that engine had cooler running temps than the new engine...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

I told my wife today that she needs to have another plan by Sunday. I'm giving this thing all I have, and my confidence is not where it should. Something happened to the Rover around 300 miles ago, and I can't figure it out. We have a Plan B, and a Plan C in place. Now we just have to decide...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

Spent last night swapping the water pump, and fan. The water pump did help some, but not what I was hoping for. At idle in the driveway the temps were 224.7 or 221.6 all the time with the AC on max. When you give it some gas those temps dropped right away to 215.4 to 217.6. Driving down the...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

Had a little discussion last night with my wife, and one that she didn't want to talk about. If the water pump fan combination doesn't fix the temp issue we're having we now have a backup plan. We thought about everything that we want to do, and we narrowed that down to what can we plan for in...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

Took me a whopping 10 minutes to discover me possible issue. I pulled off the fan and belt to find a loose water pump pulley. After doing more research on these combined parts it seems like more and more people say both have to be replaced together. Here's an good explanation from...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

That's what I'm going back to, and I'll have it on Tuesday. After really thinking things over last night I "think" I may know what's going on. I have another person tell me that when you replace the fan clutch you should replace the water pump at the same time. Without giving it much thought I...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

I think I'm good now. The fan that I have doesn't have a good seal around it so I ordered a new one. I also think my water pump might be going out, or out by now. We've been having issues since the fan clutch went, and everything says you should replace the water pump when the clutch goes...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

I definitely plan on adding something like what you did. I wonder how much of a difference there is between the Chevy Express clutch I got, and the Astro clutch that you got? I didn't have a good feeling about the generic blade that I purchased. I bet combining the pre 03 fan blade with another...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

With air temps around 90-92 it never got below 210 on the highway, and reached as high as 230. I decided to email Turner who we got the engine from to see what they think. I gave them the part numbers of what we used, and they said that was the issue. They said the clutch doesn't have the...

    2004 Discovery 2 Expo Build

I just ran through everything, and put together a timeline of events. Which isn't in our favor either. *4/30 - Brought the Rover home with the new engine, and roof rack was removed prior to driving home *5/9 - Compressor and winch were installed (no roof rack still) *5/13 - Drove to in-laws and...
