Hey Folks,
Now that the Colorado is on the road I thought I'd put up a build thread for those who are looking into building a 1st gen Colorado.
We've been heavily into the rock crawling thing for many years and still love to run the hardcore trails in our Landcruiser. Lately I've been wanting...
Nobody makes one for this truck so I had to build it myself. Now I know why they are so expensive. I think I'm in it close to $500 just in materials, not to mention the 20+ hours of labor.
Thanks Mike for putting this together.
We met a lot of nice folks and Justin (JCWages) did a great job with the recovery gear presentation!
Looking forward to the next meet-up. Hopefully it will be a little warmer next time.

The list of modifications is crazy long. Short version is cut off everything behind the transmission and replace..
I chose to start with a factory V8 2010 and added a high pinion Dana 44 front axle, 14 bolt rear, both locked with ARBs.
3.8 Atlas transfer case, ORI Struts and a whole lot of...
I went with 37" Nitto Trail Grapplers on the Colorado. After a couple thousand miles I'm pretty happy with the ride and they're not nearly as noisy as many of the other MT tires I've run in the past.
Here's a couple from the reroute last weekend.
I'm betting Ray will have more to post, but this shows the current condition of the loose climb on the uphill side..
Hey Ray, It was good meeting you last night and discussing Slick Rock. I'm trying to juggle things around so I can meet up with you guys for at least a day run on Saturday. We'll probably bring the Land cruiser and run from Alpine towards Utica, so if you're going to start at the lower (Utica)...
We ran Slick Rock last Saturday and there is no snow on the trail. There are a couple of small muddy spots at the Lake Alpine side but they will probably be dry in the next week. As discussed in earlier posts, the new trail reroute section is now the most difficult section of the trail and will...
I was able to solve the ground clearance issue on mine with some slight mods and 37" tires..
My build was a little extreme because I plan on doing a little more rock crawling than the average Colorado owner, but I agree that it's a very capable platform with plenty of interior room and cheap...
There's a weekly OB meet up at sunrise mall that we can join. I plan on attending once I get my truck on the road, just have a little work to do between now and then...
We did the CDR on motorcycles back in 2007 and it was an awesome experience! Montana has some of the most scenic back country roads you will ever see. Adventure Rider website has many ride reports with detailed info and current conditions. Most of the route is easily navigated in a 4wd vehicle...
I agree with you that the 355 Colorado/Canyon is a great platform that is somewhat undiscovered in the overland/off road world. I'm building a 2010 Colorado crew cab V8 for overland/trail use and am anxious to get it on the road this summer.
Personally I prefer the truck configuration over the...
A little out of the norm for overlanding but we have over 2k trail miles on her..

Stretched 18" and narrowed 9"
Custom frame
5.3 Vortech V8
4l60E/4 speed Atlas transfer case
Dana 60s F&R with ARBs
On board air, shower, Engle fridge, inverter

The compressor negative connection at the battery looks like it's got some heat discoloration on the insulation. You might check to make sure that connection is tight. If it's loose you'll be able to feel the wire getting hot pretty quickly. Since it's a wing nut (which are usually only finger...
Probably something you already know, but the ARB twin is much happier when the engine is running and its getting 14+ volts from the alternator instead of just the 12.6v from the battery only. I've used these compressors in several vehicles and only had a fuse issue when the compressor was used...
Hello from Roseville CA.
My name is Jim and my wife Crystal and I have been active in the rock crawling community for several years and are now looking forward to some great adventures while meeting new friends in overlanding. I'm currently building a Colorado pickup since our trusty FJ40 is not...
