I have a couple of additional questions specific to the solar panel portion of the setup. I have tried to contact Renogy but haven't had any luck, so I thought I would see if anyone here had any information.
First Question: Does it matter how the charge controller is mounted? The manual says...
Nice looking rig! Nice to see more of these trucks showing up on the overland front. Definitely will be following along to see how your rig evolves and how your trips go! Making me feel a little under achieving on my trips, I would love to be able to get away from work and do something...
Thanks all for the comments! Well not a whole lot has happened with the Raven, but that is about to change. Been doing a lot of research and gathering parts, and I think this weekend will be time to dive into the power system. I am going to go with a dual battery set up with Blue Sea ML-ACR...
@Eric Haltom Thanks! Haha yeah, suppose that's why they include the orange straps. Luckily I don't run into too much sand around these parts!
Thanks! Glad you like it, am definitely going to be following your build and adventures! I would love to be able to do that kind of trip someday as...
You have a great looking rig! That's a cool story about the glass, bet that was fun to get to go to their shop and all! I may try and get away without running glass, but well see when I get to that point, still have a ways to go I think...
Appreciate all the help and suggestions! While I like the simplicity of running a single battery set up, I am going to go the dual battery/solar panel route. A lot of my local trips involve parking at one campsite for the weekend, sometimes during less than optinal weather, and I want the...
The solar controller would connect directly to the auxiliary battery. I'm pretty sure no fuse is needed for that connection, I'm planning on just direct wiring it to the battery.
Been away from this project for a little while now, but getting back into it. I think I am going to go the Blue Sea route, have a few fuses already I think I will use, and thinking of the ML-ACR relay. Now trying to get all the wiring figured out. Can anyone with more electrical knowledge...
Nice, good to hear! Can't wait to get it done, still going to have to wait a little though, have a few things to check off the list before I really start saving for the mid travel... darn if it wasn't so pricey haha!
What size tires are you running, and are you running full glass bedsides or...
Been busy as usual and haven't gotten started on the power systems yet, but I think I have decided to go with the National Luna system, some blue sea fuses, and a solar panel on top of the roof rack. Now I just need to get everything ordered and start running some wires...
In the mean time, I...
Yeah, I really like the simplicity of the set up. Definitely nice to be able to throw stuff in the back and lock it up, and it's nice to roll into camp and just be ready to go! Definitely some trade offs as with any setup, but I am really happy with how it's working.
Definitely let me know...
@Camp_Llama thanks, glad you like it! Still have a list of things I want to do, but I'm really happy with how it's coming out, the camping setup is really in good shape now and is working pretty smoothly!
I'm running the KO2s in the 275/70R18. Haven't had any issues and really been happy with...
Finished my cook box and homemade trekpak set up this weekend. Came out pretty well, ready to put it to the test now!
I also apparently forgot to post up the new air intake. Got the S&B in a month or two ago.
I really like it, so far it's been perfect for what I wanted. It's a breeze to set up compared to my old tarp rigging days, and is pretty sturdy in the wind. I don't stake it out unless I am expecting some decent wind... It is maybe a little smaller than I'd like, but no surprise considering...
Not a whole lot has happened on the build recently, been busy with work, traveling in Scotland, and getting out in the mountains. Right now trying to decide what I want to do with the dual battery/solar panel set up. So many options, not really in my experience either...
Finally did get my...
Haha thanks, they are looking pretty related... Going to be keeping an eye on how your build evolves, always looking for more ideas, not that I need any more though!
Nice rig, good to see another full size Chevy here! Black too, good choice!... Can't give any input on the RTT, I ended up going with a "stealth" setup in the bed. Just couldn't make myself put a RTT up on top and I didn't want to start over with a bed rack set up. If you do go that way and...
