    Chloride Canyon, NM

I hope to run Chloride as well. Would love to grab your POIs for my planning. (wmay1234@gmail.com) Would be happy to share anything I have from AZ or UT that you'd be interested in.

    Extra fuel

I've run the Front Runner Double Jerry Can Holders on my Gobi Rack for 3 years now with no issues. I positioned the jerry can holders directly above the fuel neck and use the siphon mentioned above. Beats trying to use a pour spout and hold up the heavy can. Absolutely no issues with that set...

9 Days, 1 Cooler, No Resupply

Most of the loose stuff was in the two baskets (highly recommended options), so just lift one out. The few things below the basket were fairly large (think one of the premade salad kits), so didn't take much to move one aside to get to the ice level. Since he original post I have totally quit...

How to pass the time on longer drives

I use the boring parts of the trips (asphalt time) to listen to books. Lots of easy free apps out there like Libby. Just bluetooth it from my phone to the 4Runner's sound system.

    White Rim Favorite Campsites

Yes. The sites go quickly, like minutes. Don't forget that they become available at midnight Utah time. You can put down that you are on a multiday trip, but they figure that out anyway when a week or so later they send out the confirmation and payment info. White Crack really stood out to...

9 Days, 1 Cooler, No Resupply

Nope, didn't do the towel. Next time I will try that. Airspace is indeed a killer and I hear you on that vacuum seal and lid opening thing. Those seals really work!

Here is a thread I posted a while back on how I used the cooler.

Huge props to Overland Expo West 2019! It was an amazingly, well-run, logistically thought out event, with at least double the people! WOW!

This was the first year the Hansens weren't running OE. They sold it to Lodestone Events but remain involved teaching classes and serving as advisers. Thought the whole thing came off very well given it is a year of transition. I was one of the instructors this year which gave me a little...

Canyon 35 Qt. Cooler. USA. Made! $189.

I have 2 Canyon Coolers, the 35 like this one and a larger one. I mostly use the big one and get 10 days on average without needing ice. I precool the cooler and everything that goes in it, use block ice that I make in my garage freezer, and built a "cooler condom" out of reflectix and duct...

    Plano’s “Spinal Tap” Moment

WOW! I need to get a few of those. Those folks at Plano are really of the cutting edge of storage technology. Who knew you could pack 68 quarts of whatever in something only 3.7 inches tall and maybe twice the wide?

    KOFA - Concentrated Abundance

A neighbor saw me packing my gear into Bullit. “Where are you going this time?” “Kofa.” The blank look begged clarification. “A big piece of land south of Interstate 10, north of Interstate 8 and east of the Colorado River. The area is named for the King of Arizona Mine. Kofa, get it...

    Wheeling alone.

I'd say 60% of my trips are solo, just me and the truck. Another 30% are me and the wife with the remaining 10% in a small group (never more than 3 vehicles). My job as an airline pilot requires me to be around people and in loud places. Solo trips to very quiet and remote places are the...

    Fort Bluff, Utah

You can follow in the Fort Bluff pioneers' tracks on Hole in the Rock Road near Escalante and also on Snow Flat Road on Cedar Mesa. Both are great adventures. Fort Bluff is definitely worth a stop to see some interesting Southwest history.

Advice on MaxTrax mounting on Gobi rack

I used 4 bolts with large flat washers through the Gobi's metal mesh and then up through the MaxTrax mounting holes/carry holes. I ran the bolt with a large washer up through the mesh, added a washer atop the mesh and then a nut tightened down. That gave me a stud to stick up through the...

Using GPS Communicator As GPS Receiver on iPad

So my cute neighbor had an old iPad Mini that was wifi only. Bluetooth paired it with my InReach which currently does not have an active subscription. Used the standard Map app that comes on the tablet and took it for a drive miles away from any wifi signal. The position was extremely...
