Hey Don I noticed you had the Dinoot.
I was looking into that. Just speaking of structurally sound I know those are fiberglass based. Did you go with their pre-welded steel frame or use the harbor freight kit, and if so, how is it holding up?
I hunt deer, rabbit, squirrel, and turkey.
Primarily I'm vintage blackpowder. I've got a .54 cal Flintlock and a 28 gauge blunderbuss.
Last year I made this hickory longbow that I'm hoping to get a harvest with. I'm in a traditional archery club. We stay mostly primitive, and don't really...
It's funny this is one of the first threads that popped up after I joined the forums this week.
I'm 35. I grew up driving backroads in Alabama, fishing swamps in Florida with my uncles and grandfather, and moved to Nashville 10 years ago and ended my affair with the Pensacola beaches and fell...
I have a little rocket stove that's basically an l shaped piece of steel tubing with a pot holder on top. I can burn twigs and get a pretty solid fire going. I couple that with a lodge cast iron (small) for eggs or bacon and on the bottom part of the bracket I put a little one cup percolator...
Thanks for the info! That's a good point. I kind of jump into things before I decide what I like. I do already have a fire extinguisher, spare gas cans, and a first aid kit.
Also I have a wife who hates the outdoors so the two people thing might be tough but I'll figure it out. : )
New to overlanding and I picked up a 2002 Xterra 4x4 that already has a Rancho Lift and Calmini Safari Rack, new tires, and I got the suspension fixed. (just the drivers UCA and tie rod, so far)
Here's a list of what I was wanting to do to basically have it "ready to go"

Spent the last 48 hours putting together a parts list of what I think will be everything I need moving forward
Body/Armor:
- Shrockworks Rock Sliders - $0500
- Shrockworks Skid Plates (full set) - $0700
- Replacement Front and Rear Bumpers - $0400
- ARB Double Jerry...
Hey late to the party but I'm in Hermitage, TN and am the proud new owner of a 2002 Xterra 4x4 so I'd love to know when y'all are meeting up anywhere nearby to get some mud on the tires.
I don't know if it's different in desert climates, but in the dense forest filled Southeast US we typically just dig a hole, poop in it, use bio degradable toilet paper, and fill in the hole.
I've started using little enzyme packets just to help out mother nature more.
I typically have access to 4 different fire kits at any given time when I'm outdoors. One on my wrist, one in my pocket, one in my pack, and one in my vehicle.
As seen from my avatar, I'm fond of flint and steel fire. It's a little tougher to get going but it's a lot of fun to make.
Howdy!
So I've been into primitive and modern camping, backcountry, hunting, fishing, etc. my entire life and yet I've never owned a 4x4. I decided to change that last week, sold my 2003 GMC Sierra I've had for almost 16 years, and bought my neighbors 2002 Nissan Xterra.
Long Term Goals...
I'm in the same boat here. I can't decide whether to put a swing out tire carrier on my xterra or just mount the tire on the aftermarket roof rack, which would be much cheaper. I don't plan to put a RTT on the Xterra since I'm going to do a trailer build.
I had a lot of fun in my 2003 Sierra 2WD and was able to get in and out of some pretty ridiculous places. The biggest thing was just having access to jacks, sleds, and winches when needed.
