1/1: Feliz Años Nuevos.
We found our license plate on the dirt road coming out of Las Animas; some Good Samaritan propped it on the side of the trail. Started to hear some clanking, turned out to be a loose upper control arm bolt; quick fix.
Back in San Felipe Pete’s Camp. Tomorrow we plan to...
12/31: stopped by Coco’s Corner. Briefly met @DanielSchupp before heading off to Bahia de Los Angeles. Gave a stranded local my 2G of gasoline. Found camp at Las Animas (Lost my rear license plate along the way) and spent the New Year Eve there. We met some cool overland guys at Las Animas; two...
@KennethC stopped by to meet us. Checked out San Felipe town and Cantus Cove. 2nd night at Pete’s.
Tomorrow the plan is Puertecitos and possibly Gonzaga Bay.
After being stuck during the snow storm and having to sleep on HWY58; skipping Borrego Springs; we made it to Pete’s camp this afternoon. There are about 8 campers on the beach. Still more room left.
Yeah it's raining and wet tomorrow as we start driving South tomorrow. There's a counter clockwise weather front on the Pacific that's why the temps dropped. Hoping that it clears up soon. I got your info.
Did you just drive up ... their website says reservation is a must two 2 weeks in advance. We are arriving into San Felipe 12/28 ... haven't finalize our camp location yet.
Alright really closing in on the trip plans. My family plans to leave Bay Area on 12/26, be in Borrego Springs on 12/27, and crossing into Mexico and arriving San Felipe on 12/28. Leaving Mexico on 1/2.
Anything to expect for NYE? Can we purchase fireworks and light up the beach?
Comms...
Are you sure you have the correct weather location? There’s several San Felipe on weather Apps. This is what’s showing on weather channel app “San Felipe, Baja Mexico”.
I was there today. Great turn out despite the rain. Great beer, food, entertainment, raffle prizes, and good to meet and talk rigs.
Brought the family and invited some new off-road/overlanding friends to come along.
Spotted OB emblems and some patches.
Right now it looks like we will arrive San Felipe either 12/27 or 12/28. Not sure yet about the rest of the trip. We just need to head back to NorCal on 2/3.
Not sure what it’s like for NYE over there.
Will check back in here as the dates finalize.
I have the Rhino 3x20' Recovery Tow strap which I just used this weekend to help recover a GXOR out of a mud bog. I've used it several times at the sand dunes as well.
I bought the Rhino Shackle Hitch Receiver and folding Shovel ... got the discount for buying it all together earlier this year...
I'm now running 255/75/17 BG KO2s C-Load rated tires on the Tacoma.
On the HWY I'm usually 36psi Front and 34psi Rear.
On fire roads, I typically drop down to 22~24psi. If it gets rougher or I need more traction due to loose gravel or sand, or if it's crawling over rocks, then I'm down to...
