Definitely synthetic. Besides being lighter in weight, the synthetic can be found in many tensile strengths while staying relatively thin. The safety factor is huge IMHO. The ability to use add-ons, shackles, and etc also make it more versatile.
Just found this thread....I have a 17silverado and plan to use it as my right. I started off with a diamondback cover and some KO2 tires....I went 285/65/20. Eventually I'd like to put a lift on mine...3-4 inches and replace both bumpers. Im torn as to what to purchase next....I have three...

Both serve their purpose very well. You have to look at what you plan on doing with the blade. If you're planning on cutting through rope or twine or anything like that, I'd definitely say go with a serrated blade. Otherwise, I recommend a plain/straight blade.
