I got the axles and everything I wanted off the old one removed and pressure washed.
Time for the old friend to take one more trip. Off to the crusher.
I know what ya mean. I didn't plan to go this far into it. But after deciding to make it my daily driver as well as family adventure mobile it grew. I was given some requests and definite needs to included or upgrade. And so the tools and parts started moving.
When I went to put the exhaust heat shields back on the body my ocd got the best of me. Just couldn't bring myself to reinstall the dirty and rusty shields. So it was time for some cleanup.
After the first coat of high temp paint. I used some POR15 high temp gray.
Second coat on and...
Spent a little time in the garage to day. Decided to take the engine out of the 95 frame this afternoon. Made a little more room by removing the core support. I wanted to check the lower mount area anyway.
With the bumper and the core support out of the way. It was pretty easy to slip the...
The one in the garage from the 95. Was hoping for the easy route of just using everything under the body from the old one. But found some thin spots in the frame so now I get to do it the more involved way.
Got started removing everything I may need or could use on the new one. And getting the body ready to remove.
With all the glass removed and such it was time to flip the body onto the trailer.
Now I have easy access to the rest of it.
Unfortunately I found some thin spots in the...
Nice. I had thought about heading SW to find a rust free one. But my time off had to be used elsewhere. But the few spots I have to fix on this one are pretty clean for up here.
Yes sir. I've sprayed lizard skin sound deadening on almost all the interior. Then I am going to put down 3/8 thick sound insulation everywhere I can before the carpet and interior goes back in.
I got the silly idea that the firewall may as well match the exterior paint so it got cleaned up and a little color update.
Before.
And After some cleaning a little sanding and parts removal.
And yes I'm aware it serves no purpose other than cosmetic. But I think it turned out...
Thanks! Now and then I have to laugh at myself because I have OCD moments when working on projects. But on this one I'm blaming my accountant due to her request that this bronco be nicer, quieter, and more comfortable than the last one.
I managed to get the underside all cleaned up and a primed. I also reinforced the body mounts with some 3/16 plate. I was working after the kids went to bed and in a hurry so not too many pictures this go around.
And of course a few after the seam sealer and bedliner was on. It turned out...
Got a little ambitious the other day and pulled the frame out from under it.
Now it's time to clean things up underneath and get some bed liner or something under there.
We did start pulling some of the front apart. Of course I had some high end mini help.
She managed to get all but 3 bolts out of the inner fender liners.
The she took off with my cordless ratchet to take the front grill and support off.
The "help" does slow the progress down but...
@Lanlubber Funny you should mention the pulling the body part. I'm actually thinking I'll do that. Manly due to the fact that I have a complete and well build drive train ready to go with a bad body sitting out in my drive way. I'm thinking that swapping the body will be easier than pulling...
Most of the local mud racing is short and a little light on the mud. Unfortunately the new bronco probably won't get the same mud and water abuse the green one did. But anything is possible when the wife looks the other way! The old one has had water high enough in the cab to get the kids...
Thanks, We hope to be enjoying it soon too. Racing it would be fun but we don't have much of that type of racing up here. Just circles and some straight line.
Made some good progress this weekend. Managed to have some good family time and a little relaxation too. So good weekend.
I got the other gusset in on the drivers side.
And of course the passenger as well.
Well, just for good measure I decided to add some inside gussets of a...
