And then our real overlanding experience happened. We were prepared to take on White Rim Trail in Moab, UT. This trip alone changed our perspective on what we're working hard, trying to achieve, and overall well-being. Can't say enough about this experience!
On top of Shafer Switchbacks...
We took the truck on several local 4x4 trips to get used to the new tech that the Toyota offers, and just to get an overall feel for the truck as a whole. Mt. Baldy trail near Colorado Springs proved to be a great trail to get started on.
Shortly after I installed the rack, my CVT Mt. Bachelor/Shasta tent w/ annex showed up! CVT went through a change-in-name phase, where I bought a Mt. Shasta, but it is now known as the Mt. Bachelor RTT. In came both my hi-lift and shovel as well.
This is where the fun started. I knew that I wanted to do exactly what Motortrend did on their Epic Drives Tacoma trip. This is where my love for overlanding began. I began by buying a FunTreks Moab guidebook, and pinpointed White Rim Trail for our first adventure. I would need to make sure that...
It didn't take much convincing on buying the Tacoma, as I knew I wanted something tough, capable, mid-size, and new. I had always been up for adventure, but in my searches on Tacoma, I came across a Motortrend Epic Drives video on YouTube that sealed the deal for me:
When seeing what the...
Before I go into the day I sold the truck, here is what I'm coming from. 2014 Ford Mustang V6, slightly modified. I bought the car new and in bare bones form, but ended up turning it into a respectable and fun canyon carver. There are days that I miss the speed, but the Tacoma provides so much...
I figured I was due to start putting together the history of my 2016 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road to document how it started and where it sits currently. This will be heavy with pictures, as we are always bringing the camera out with us on adventures.
For anyone interested in following, my...
Hey all,
I'm in the process of shopping for 2" lift kits for my 2016 Tacoma Offroad. I've narrowed down my choices to Bilstein 5100s (with add a leafs and OME 887 coils), OME 2" lift (add a leafs and OME 887 coils), and Toytec 2" lift (with add a leafs, fully assembled coilovers). I've been...
That's a great setup. Eventually I want to upgrade to a trailer system similar to yours and have an additional battery powering all the aux equipment. I've considered wiring my truck bed, but am trying to avoid all of the wiring, at least until I can get a topper for the back
Those lights look awesome! I have to convince myself to spend the money, but if you're having a lot of success with them I'll definitely consider it. I feel like lighting is one thing worth spending a bit extra on. I struggle with the headlamps after awhile and would love to have a single light...
I'll second that. I see a lot of meetups in the Boulder and Denver area that make them difficult to get to at times. Maybe if we can get on a steady rhythm, we can start something down in the COS area on a more regular basis.
I'll keep you posted. I was worried about the solar in that it might not function properly, but I can still plug it in, so that's a plus. With that said, if I'm on a backpacking trip, it would be really nice to have the solar function properly. I might do a full drain on it and see how long it...
Bummer. Was hoping to join up with you guys soon, but we'll be on a Grand Canyon road trip on those days. I'll try to make something in the near future!
I'll talk to the wife, but we try going out there at least once a year, so I'll see if that time works. Highly recommend doing all of White Rim if you go. Schedule out camping in advance if you do!
