It's about an hour south of Yosemite in central CA. If you check the forum with GPS tracks, find the one for a bald mountain overlook and you can do the same run.
It's actually white on the inside, I think so it doesn't feel like a cave. I'd guess it could handle at least a few inches of snow without a problem, it's pretty sturdy and you can guy out the sides to keep it from folding up.
Technically they designed my tent to not need another structure above. That's why it's reflective and insulated. I found that in the desert in August I was pretty comfortable in there into late morning and I'm sure it would be OK all day with the doors open and a fan.
My biggest problem has...
It's a Shift Pod. I'm happy with it for long camps where you live in the tent for a week but for just one night at a site it's a bear to lift up onto the car. It's about $900 so a roof top tent might be a better choice for overland.
Unfortunately I've figured out that Off Road Warehouse didn't ship a whole box of parts to me. So now I have to get them to track them down and send them to me. It's going to cost me several weeks before I can try the install again, which sucks.
It's a bummer but I am going to have to bail on this weekend. I had hoped to leave work early on Friday (or just take the day off) but it now looks like I'll have to stay until 5. With the South Bay traffic that would mean I couldn't get to camp until like 2 am and it's just not worth it for one...
Late Friday from SF. A bit worried I may have electrical problems - rig had trouble starting twice this weekend and I didn't do anything besides wash it. Giving it a day or two in case I somehow sprayed water into the starter.
I have one Overland Bound member badge on the back of my FJ, and I've been planning to mount the other one somewhere up front for a while. I hadn't found an easy way to get a clean mount - you need something with a nice flat surface for the badge to stick to, and then you need a way to securely...
Matilda. I guess because FJs are popular down under. After I named it I found out my sister had a Jeep named the same when she lived in Egypt for a while. Just got the plates.
On some surfaces (grass, alkali flats) having short legs will prevent leaving a burn scar. Also, the fire pit will cool off faster, which means you can use it in the morning then pack it relatively soon after.
