That's awesome. My wife and I just got back from WY and UT. Big Bend is best in the spring. All the flowers are blooming and the weather is great. Check out Christmas Mountain when you go. You can get the gate key for free from Terlingua Ranch Lodge, tell Bill Tommy sent ya.

We rarely stay in established campgrounds

A group of us will be camping a bunch at Oxford Ranch October-April. You're welcome to join us and drive the loop. Spring is a really great time to drive it, sooo many colors and flowers. Also check out the Leakey/Camp Wood area for some amazing roads and hills. Tons of water crossing down there!

I've been up there for the past 3 Christmas' when there is a ton of snow. I love it up there!

We went through anyway

It would be fun but we may be exhausted by then and ready to set up camp and crack open some beers.

Depending on how we feel once we get to the mountains I scoped out a dirt road route to Cloudcroft. Sixteen Springs Road. It's only 2 miles longer than the highway but the highway is 38 mins and 16 Springs says 1h43min.

That's what it is here in Round Rock. Good to fill up in Cloudcroft as we might not see another station for 2 days.

Looks like we should arrive in Cloudcroft on Friday afternoon around 2:30-3pm MST. Plenty of time to fuel up and seek out the first campsite

We drove a big portion of the southern part back in May. It will be fun to connect the next portion.

We got to Silver City on the 29th last year. It had snowed A LOT the day before making it impossible to explore the FSRs. It was too cold for us to camp so we just got a room in Silver City for 3 days and hung out at the local brewery.

I'm heading out there with Artemis on Dec. 26th. Hopefully we can explore some before the snowfall this year
