As much as I'm for more freedom/liberty and less government/regulation in many aspects of life in the US, I'm not opposed to changes that could mean the difference between keeping access to public lands and losing it entirely. In this case, I don't think permits or more regulations would make a...
Yeah, we'll be picking up I-70 either in Topeka or farther west near Colby, KS. I avoid the tolls roads which means staying off the interstate a bit more and seeing areas we normally wouldn't. I'll make a note about the carousel, if the timing works out either on the way there or the way back...
Thanks for all the great suggestions so far, I really appreciate it!
@Boort We did half of the Alpine Loop a couple of years ago, amazing views! We'll probably do the other half this summer. We have a couple of favorite camp spots we'll be going back to (One by Bandora Mine and the other off...
Over the years we've done just about everything; An RV, two travel trailers, three boats, three PWCs, and more recently the RTT and off-grid trailer. Maybe I'm just becoming less tolerant, but I feel like the general outdoors experience in popular places has become 100x worse since the...
Thanks! I'll make notes in Gaia for the Medano Pass and check out the Gold Belt tour. We've been to Silverton and the surrounding areas previously which is why we want to go back. We've got some awesome campsites marked from then as well and then we'll also do some more exploring in places we...
We hit the road back to Colorado in just under 2 weeks and we're working on making a list of activities to do aside from exploring and camping. Family friendly meaning wife, 17 year old daughter, and myself. What we currently have...
Royal Gorge (ziplining, etc)
Rafting or tubing but not sure...
I'm not sure why folks are spending big $$$ on cellular iPads just to get GPS when they could get proper GPS in a much cheaper Samsung tablet. If people want to pay the Apple Tax because they really want an Apple product that's fine, but if someone isn't married to Apple then there are much...
Thought I'd try reviving this thread, though I'm mainly curious to know how folks have their Garmin watches set up for adventure activities and what watch faces people have found to be useful. I've been using smart watches for years (Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch3, and now a Garmin Fenix 7...
Our house was built in 2009 so not much in the way of upkeep/reno/maintenance projects. My wife and I are unsure how long we'll live here for, she wants an in-ground pond and we both want a deck on the back of the house and some french doors added to the master bedroom that opens onto the deck...
That's awesome! We had actually thought about building our own model train layout after going to one of the Great Train shows but life got in the way. Long-term projects don't seem to take hold in this house very well either, but maybe down the road when I'm retired and it's something I could...
Yeah, we live in one of those cool/quirky little towns and the GPS often times takes us on county roads to get places, some of which are just gravel, but it's still largely passing by corn or soybean fields. Load up Google Maps, switch to satellite view, pick a random spot in Illinois, zoom in...
Well, we've explored IN a bit as well as downstate IL (Shawnee NF, etc), but there really isn't much to explore in IL. Sure, we have more public land by % than KS but it's not much. KS is listed as 1.9% public land and IL is 4.1%. That 4.1% is virtually no off-road or even forest roads, it's...
So, the other problem where I live besides lack of outdoor destinations close by is the summer weather. We basically had no spring at all, it went from late winter to summer weather in like less than a week. On average it's not supposed to be too bad, but summers are getting worse and worse...
It's likely using A-GPS and not the actual GPS from the iPhone, everything I've read (including recent stuff) says the iPhone doesn't share precise location data with other devices. Have you used that setup out in BFE where there's no cell signal and had it still work? If so then maybe that's...
Right, the only "pairing" to be done is connecting the iPad to the iPhone's hotspot but that doesn't share GPS data with the iPad, it's internet/data only. The only way to get GPS on a WiFi-only iPad is with a GPS receiver directly connected to it.
There are definitely projects/ideas I could work on, the problem is I'm at the point where the ones I have left are rather expensive and not necessary yet. Would like to do front and rear bumpers, winch, rear spare tire carrier, and get some sliders. I'll probably try and get things rolling on...
Yeah, maybe I'll pick up route planning for our eventual Canada/Yukon/NWT/Alaska trip that we're hoping to do in a couple of years.
Speaking of models, when COVID first hit I picked up one of the LEGO Bugatti kits, that kept me busy for about a week. haha
Ok, I know everyone is different and a big factor is where you live/where home is so I'll start by talking about my situation.
We moved from SoCal to Illinois a little over 7 years ago, and while the move was a net gain in quality of life the problem is that Illinois is not exactly known for...
My concern with going that route is that the inReach battery life is pretty awful if used for more than minimal use. Not that you would be using it while not plugged in, my point is more that it's not really meant for constant use like that and it would suck to have it not work when you need it...
The bolt size and length depend on what you're mounting to the Decked platform, so Decked would have no clue what to tell you to use as there's no one-size-fits-all bolt. I want to say the Decked platform is around 1/2" thick, when I mounted my AluCab tilt slide to my Decked I was able to use...
