Oh I should have pointed out that the rubber brake lines should be one of the first things replaced on an older vehicle as well, because they will swell like a balloon and again cause a loss of braking force. It usually will show itself in pulling during breaking on the front axle but the rear...
Mellowdave - I can't argue your point when you talk about mountain passes at highway speeds. A slotted and drilled rotor could help reduce brake fade in those conditions, and they are the easy upgrade as long as they are quility parts. In town it's more about space management, keep three...
Your best bet will be with the pads. Drilled and slotted rotors are for ventilating and cooling, they are more suited for high performance driving. You might look at the Wilwood MC or a Tacoma swap. Here is the link for a form Expedition Portal talking about the swap...
You have many factors to consider. Where are you wheeling and what are the conditions. If your in the desert on rocks I would go locker first but if you are in the woods with mud then wench first. I've put wenches on 4 different vehicles and never used them to self recover on the trail. I...
Well there you go. While your in there when was the last tune up? Remember you're pushing six, 4" cylinders up and down. Good for power not so good for gas. I think Toyota worked with OPEC when they developed their big six.
Yes like a possi that you can disconnect so you get the benefit of an open diff on the road. There are several different options of lockers and ways to engage them. Take your time and do the research to get what you think will work best for you.
Ha ha ha:tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy: I always heard...
Wow 40 gallon tank. I though the 34 gallon tank on my RC was a mother to fill up. I like your build start doing some of the same for my RC but I will have to wait on bonus time in the spring.
Depends on the year an make of course. Newer trucks with them newfangled computers just take going in and changing the parameters. If your speedo is gear driven it requires you change the speedo drive gear.
Running the 33.5 A/T is probably your biggest issue. FJ80 only got 12/14 epa milage new with 255/70R16 tires which are about 31" tall. Going to a larger tire will add more unsprung weight and change your gearing wich will impact your milage. Don't forget your curb weight is 4510 lbs empty...
With a rack like that you should name your ride Heavy Metal. Then you can blast Don Felder's "Heavy Metal (Takin a ride)".
Or ride with Sammy Hagar's "Heavy Metal" same movie.

The old Ram Charger gets 16 mpg on the hwy and about 11 - 12 mpg messing around. Of course it is pretty much stock drive line and an easy foot on the 5.9L. If I push it hard it will drop down around 8 mpg, so it is a matter of prudence on how I drive it. You know what they say, with power...
I would have made my own brackets if I hadn't picked up the Smittybilt rack. The only reason I spent the money on the Smittybilt rack was because I was able to get it as a price less than I could have picked up the materials at the time. Now for the Ram Charger I will have to build the entire...
A few of key point to keep in mind with fire extinguishers.
They must be checked regularly for pressure and make sure they haven't caked up due to vehicle vibrations. The powder in extinguishers is about 100 times finer than baby powder which give it the ability to flow like a liquid but...
If this is not too late to add. Cherokee National Forrest between Chattanooga and Knoxville. Also you have Windrock Park if you want to break something. Then there is the Cherokee National Forrest North of the Smokie Mountain National Park up to the north east corner of the state.
You know...
A basket I did for my YJ years ago using 1/2 EMT. It sat on a Smittybilt rack. Once I received the Smittybilt rack I couldn't bring myself to pay for there basket. The rack was not all that well built and I could have made it for half the price.
I have several Action Packers that I have been using for about 15 years. I think mine are 24 gallon and they are extremely handy. They are easy to carry around and can carry a heavy load. The size is about as big as you want so that you don't load them so heavy they need two people. We used...
