No as long as you stay on the FRS 2 watt limit. As I understand it correctly... but I'm a total newb when it comes to the whole topic. I went ahead and got the GMRS license because I wanted a more powerful handset and detachable antenna capability. And use it legally :grimacing:
Rally Point updated, @MTN RNR @WhatTheZo @hopkillin @Snupee are all admins on the event so feel free to make edits if needed. Everyone else feel free to check out the description and the Rally Point notes. If you have any questions feel free to comment or get in touch with me directly.

Productive meeting tonight, I'll get details updated on the Rally Point asap (probably tomorrow 10/8).
Rough outline: Friday night we will camp at a slightly different spot near Ocotillo for those able to make it. We will make our way to Fish Creek campsite Saturday and meet up with those...
I think the Overland Bound group overall is really pushing towards HAM. I am planning on pursuing that route at least. I know that may not be doable by this Anza trip... I will be going "old school" and just letting people back home know the itinerary/scheduled contact times. The next trip I...
Karl Strauss seemed quiet enough, but I'm not very familiar with that area in general. I'm downtown but there's not a ton of venues conductive for a meeting... Somewhere with parking would be a better start than anything I could come up with :tearsofjoy:
@mdupray yes definitely should be fine just to show up. It's still saying "0 out of 0 attendees" so it just must be a bug within Rally Point events. I've run into it in the past as well. I'll have more details about the trip Monday to share!
The primitive sites are first come first serve it looks like. I haven't brought up times yet, but best case scenario for me personally will be 4:30-5:00pm (if not later).
That private parcel deal is another place I believe, I just caught some past stories about it so I'm not 100% sure if...
I did update the Rally Point description slightly, and organized the notes about what we are still working on organizing. If it helps anyone get a better feel for the event that is. I won't be doing anything too challenging in my stock 4Runner - easy trails or just casually exploring the park...
Learning wise I think @MTN RNR was going to do a HAM overview. Winches, recovery, etc was also a topic that was going to be touched on - but if there's any other topics people are interested in we can add that to a list as well.
As of now about the only thing we have sorted out is the Fish Creek campground as a home base site. I've never been to the area so just going off maps and people's recommendations myself - are there any trails you have been wanting to do? We can add them to a list. @hopkillin and @Snupee were...
Interesting, I wonder what causes that. Yeah so far no rsvp's from what I can see as an "event creator". I'll dig into it a bit, maybe I clicked a wrong button
In this thread, we can plan and organize a group trip to Anza-Borrego October 18, 19, and 20. Feel free to come for the whole weekend or a single day.
Friday night we will be camping at 32.7780790, -116.0283200 near Ocotillo. Saturday morning we will meet up at the Fish Creek Primitive...
