Not sure which part of the north you are going to explore, but here are some suggestions:
1. The Enchanted Circle is a beautiful drive through Taos, Red River, Eagle Nest, and Angel Fire. Although it may be difficult to bring dogs into some businesses, most of these areas are pretty dog...
Just joined a month ago - ABQ metro area, T4R (used to have an FCJ), been overlanding for a about a decade, but trying to get back into it a bit more. Love this site/forum.
What kind of places are you looking for? Hotels? Campgrounds? Hiking? I am in the ABQ metro area and have four dogs. I travel quite a bit with my little terrier sitting on my console. Post up what types of pet access you are looking for and I will help if I can. Sorry, I just saw this post as well.
Froyal5 - me and a buddy (another member of the forum) are maybe looking towards doing an Alaska trip in a few years. Certainly we can post up when we get closer if you are interested then. Not sure of timing, route, or number of days on the road. BTW - Congrats on Law School, quite an...
Nice work. My future plans includes a trailer. I've been looking at the Hiker; it seems tough and reasonably priced. I'd like to mod a basic model, but probably won't go all out like yours. I'd also like to see some photos of the interior.
I just use the 100w panel/charger/controller combo I got from Harbor Freight. I think it was somewhere in the $100-150 range (it was a while ago). It is not super portable, which about a 2X3 foot panel which I store on the RV bed when towing, then set up at camp. It keeps the batteries charged...
Well, I couldn't resist. Signed up and ready to experience this wonderful route again (this time in a different rig - now in a T4R). I'd like to bring my trail partner (small terrier pup) if that is OK.
We are planning a trip this spring to the North Rim. Lots of opportunities to camp right next to the edge. However, given that it will be winter, you may not be able to get through. They get a LOT of snow along the Canyon rim. I am unsure if you could get through some of the forest roads. Might...
We did the Kokopelli a few years back. We had an amazing trip and it was our first experience in overlanding. Since that time, I have been hooked. We took a side-trip to Top of the World - which provided some of the most beautiful vistas above Moab. I am considering joining y'all on this...
These are all amazing ideas. I hadn't installed my badge yet. Was thinking on an interior mount (as some of you have done). What has been everyone's experience with the exterior mount - is the sticky tape strong enough to keep it from falling off after being exposed to heat/cold/wet/dry?

Agreed...Go with solar for the minimal power needs (cell phone, navigation, etc.). Not that I am against a generator, just not in the backcountry. When we are overlanding, we do it like we did back in the day when we still backpacked into the mountains. Keep the generator, you'll never get...
I assume that since you have a cabin in the area, you are familiar with the Enchanted Circle drive, it is a scenic and enjoyable trip for sure. It should be nice next week; we have received a little bit of snow this week but temperatures are warmer and we are down on seasonal snow fall...
