    Fiskars Axe

I use them too. Love the idea of wood handle Hults or Helko but the durability of the polymers while out on the road, plus the price point, but Feskar has served me well for years.

    Texas routes

Massive privately owned topsoil and mineral rights, so access to lands is tough.

    Any disadvantages to stubby bumpers?

Until someone pulls out in front of you and the tire makes impact with their vehicle... suspension woes.

Have it inspected first. You know, for mice, tetanus, small pocks, scarlet fever.

    Any disadvantages to stubby bumpers?

14lbs is less than 2 gallons of gas. Not particularly noteworthy. The benefits are about the same as the cons. Cons: More dirt, mud and gravel travel around the outside of the vehicle. Pros: Greater articulation at full turn with 37" and up tires. Easier access for adjustable shocks, cleaning...

    Texas routes

And for something different, the Hill Country has several smaller offroad arks for trails and rock climbing. I am working with a group called Merus Adventure who is buying a 6,500 acre ranch at Palo Duro Canyon outside Amarillo. Overlanding, hiking, biking, dispersed camping, RV, support...

    Insurance?

Its dependent on state. I have a $10k rider on my policy and update yearly an itemized list and pictures. I plan on dropping my rider to %4k once my overland trailer is done. the way my trailer policy will work is that I can add a lot of "stuff" that is on my rig, and declare it on my trailer...

    Jerry Can Mounts

Had them on the roof and was more concerned about spilling up there than weight. I ditched the idea of Jerry cans and went with Rotopax. This has worked out perfectly for me. It is simply a Rotopax mount plate, two RP mounts, two cans. The 3 bolts pass into the hollow lugs of the spare tire...

    2021 Diesel Rubicon Sarge Green

Take a look at the AEV bumpers they just came out with. Spendy but quality is 2nd to none.

US Rocky Mountain Summer trip to WY/MT (Not Yellowstone) - Overland route and campsite suggestions

Finding a way to Beartooth Pass is a must do if in the area. It is stunning. Camping at 11k' and some trails in the area near the top of the pass. Grizzly country too.

    Recovery Gear Bag Recommendation

I went the box route. Stacks far easier on the roof rack than a bag, otherwise it has to go inside. I picked up a couple of the Ridgid 22" stackable boxes. Have only used one thus far. Fits a Gear America 30' 3" strap, 25' Kinetic rope, 2 3/4" shackles, AEV Tree Saver, gloves, trailer pins, zip...

    Overlanding Cigar Aficionados

I do on occasion. Had a friend visiting family outside Havana recently... she brought back a small box for me. As soon as my lungs heal from Covid in a few months, it will be time to sit on the rooftop with a glass of Appleton Estate 12 year and enjoy.

Any Experience with Tiny Trailer Company Rugged Rhino's

The price reflects what they can and cant do. i am sure their roof just isn't built to support a vent and the size limits galley size so you still have enough cabin size. But, at their prices, its a terrific first or 2nd owner trailers to use for a few years and then move into something with all...

Full time overland rig - Tundra or F-150

Something I didnt see is parts availability if you go out of country. Toyota parts are far easier to find in central and south America than Ford. I have always been partial to Ford 250/350/Expedition, but the 1 F150 I had new to about 100k miles was bullet proof. However, having been to Belize...

    Cot Recommendation?

Weird. Fixed now. It is wider than most and supports 500lbs. I am 300lbs so having a bit more room and the head tilt makes it a lot more comfy. It is a bit big to store on the roof rack, but nothing I cant make work out ok.

New offroad park - Palo Duro Canyon - Amarillo, TX

Looks as if I cam going to do some work for them. They need a writer and editor for their website, emails, blogs and magazine articles. Headed up their next week to get a look around to meet them and some trail time in to write their first article for an outdoor magazine. I'll report back what I...

My own private overland recreation area build.

Been looking in Northern NM and southern CO for the same thing, but not finding a lot in my price range (too many projects) that have any real elevation change. Congrats. How many acres did you wind up with?

    Cot Recommendation?

I tried a few cots at an RV show and found this was best for me at 300lbs. Love the tilt up head so I can bring just one pillow. Supports 500lbs, but did find a few others that supports 600lbs from other manufacturers. Two of these do fit inside a Gazelle tent with room to spare.
