Sorry... then why aren't you in the NoVA group?
As difficult as time management is, it's unlikely that I'll spend 4-5 hours to head to the Roanoke/Blacksburg area to wheel/camp (though with a Hokie graduate, I do love the area)
I'm in Gainesville and 40 min from the George Washington and...
I'd recommend bumpers (with winch) and sliders. Totally changes the approach angels and clearance. This is my O6 at Overland Expo - East in 2018 . These are Dissent Bumpers
Totally agree... I actually have 3 currently... OEM in vehicle Nav, and iPad4 with Gaia (and I'm evaluating Hema Explorer (US) and NatGeo maps) and a Garmin Nuvo 660 with road and topo (waterproof for motorcycles - I usually have my KLR hanging off the back). I'm intrigued by the RP3 capability...
Sounds like a great science project... not very self contained and Frankenstein-ish with add on wires, screens and battery packs.
Have you built one? What OS would you use that would run a GPS app like GAIA (or something else
I have a Raspberry Pi 3 b+ starter kit for $70 off Amazon that comes...
Concur on the recommendations that you buy right hand drive. Sell it before you leave and buy another upon your return.
I would also use the opportunity to ship home exotic parts like a long range fuel tank (almost impossible to find in CONUS) when you return.
Recommend you take a 60" High Lift...
I use an iPad (Gen 4) with the Cellular activated (though not required). I've never needed a supplemental GPS puck as the onboard chip/antenna work fine. I also just signed up for the 5 year paid membership (with the OB discount) with Gaia so we can start downloading maps.
Both work great!
The Grand Opening for the new Silver Eagle Group shooting facility in Ashburn is also on the 15th from 0900-1900.
Any chance we can move the meetup earlier or later?? I'd like to try and make both.
From personal experience I would recommend that you buy the cable without the connectors in order to run the lines where you need to in the vehicle without having to drill extremely large holes and then solder the connector on when you get it to the right length
Was this new user unfamiliarity with the equipment or proven to be a problem with the radios inability to perform?
I like to give equipment the benefit of the doubt until I prove it's the gear and not user error. Could have easily been a low power setting or a bad rubber duck antenna that...
Why the blanket statement? I understand there is a bias against "Chinese Junk", but in my experience, it's just not true!
I own several and for his intended purpose and price point, they can't be beat.
They do what they are intended to do and the models I have are waterproof. I've yet to kill one.
I have a dual band vehicle HAM and 4 x waterproof HTs (Baofeng UV-9R+) which is what I prefer. I also have a remote handset CB (Uniden CMX7650) and CB Handheld (Uniden PRO401HH). Also, we were given a tub with four old Mototrolla GPRS Handi talkies. My key thought point is that whatever we...
The Baofeng UV-9R+ is an exceptional radio! At $40 each, you can afford one for everyone.
I have four (one person) and a dual-band remote head unit installed into the truck. If for any reason one of us walks away from the vehicle, we have an HT on our belt. While the user interface can be a...
