I was out there a few months ago. Just tooling around and ended up by Little Lake Willis. I was pretty disappointed to see a ton of litter in an otherwise beautiful (if muddy) forest. If I lived closer I'd try to put together a clean up event. Hopefully you all don't run into the same issue...
I haven't tried it, but you could easily test it with water or some such non-flammable liquid, and strap it down in the back of that pickup for a while to see if it does.
Personally, I'm more about function than form. Of course, I don't want my rig to look like crap. But, if something looks a bit off but works great, I'd take that money I saved on just making it look better and spend it on other gear lol. Personal preference though.
I have a 52" rack on my Silverado with a 6'3" bed. It could be shorter, and in most cases, I wouldn't mind at all. Think about everything you plan to put up there now or in the future, and if it will fit, it will probably be fine.
I went cheap with a Vantech ladder rack for $127 and a cargo...
Like slomatt said - bio-degradable camp soap (I use Coghlans) and Bar Keepers Friend once home for stainless steel.
I keep a squirt top bottle with soapy water handy. Good for washing hands or dishes in a small pop-up sink. I think the bottle also helps me use less water, since I can see it...
How often are you hitting off-road trails? The reason I ask is that you may just consider keeping your current setup for your daily drive. Then buy the exact M/T setup you want and just swap wheels when you're ready to hit the trail. It's not that you couldn't use M/T tires on a daily driver...
I'm no expert, I only know what I've read. But, my understanding is that you de-air your tires on various terrain types to increase the *length* of tread in contact with the ground, rather than the width. Sure, you gain some additional contact surface with a wider tire. But, if you don't have...
I usually carry a small .380 (my EDC). When heading out west where there's more wildlife to be mildly concerned about, I carry a .357. I sometimes think I'm being silly for carrying at all. But last year while camping remotely in MN (where my CCW is not recognized), I was unarmed aside from a...
Here's my rig. This was last year when I was carrying gear for prospecting out in Colorado. Sorry it's a bit shaky, I was in a rush to hit the road :). Haven't updated the exterior much since then. Currently finishing up a rear seat delete/storage area project.
I don't have a trailer, but was considering built-in options for my truck. I ended up going with this instead, as I liked the portability. I can move it anywhere my long cord will reach. I am currently building a rack where I can keep and use it. I'm carrying two 20L cans, and can move the pump...
If I came across the same situation and knew there was another campsite not far away, I probably wouldn't have stopped at all. I prefer to camp alone (or alone in a group) if possible, and other people being around defeats the purpose for me. I run away to the wilderness to enjoy the wilderness...
I use a combination of iOverlander and freecampsites dot net. Freecampsites seems to have a lot more sites, but you have to read the reviews carefully. Many seem to be registered by boondockers who operate pretty loosely, and will register a site which may or may not be legal, but they just...
The statistics I looked at were shear load limits (I misspelled above). That is the capacity which includes potential horizontal stresses (like you would encounter turning a vehicle at normal driving speeds). Meaning, a reinforced shell with 300 pound capacity could safely support that load not...
Sheboygan here.
I drove the northern half of the TWAT a couple summers ago. It *is* mostly pretty tame. There are a few somewhat sketchy spots in Chequamegon-Nicolet NF, mostly just a few large rocks, a little mud after it rains, and overgrown trees (watch your windshield!). It's a nice drive...
Hey All,
Anybody know how much of an issue compatibility is between grille guards and offroad bumpers?
I have a 2017 Silverado with a Wetsin Sportsman grille guard. I'm looking to replace the stock bumper with something that has a winch or at least something I can stick a hi-lift on if I ever...
I'm working on the same thing for my 2017 Silverado. Building carpeted wood shelves, installing accessory power distribution and an inverter. Trying to keep it modular so I can put the back seat in *relatively* easily if I ever need to. Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out. I'm sure...
I can't tell what model that is, but I looked into weight limits on Leer caps a while back since I have one myself. Wasn't looking to add a RTT, just wanted to know how much I could carry up there (center of gravity concerns aside). Unreinforced fiberglass Leer caps have a limit of 120 lbs...
