A long time ago some friends and I repaired an old camper that looked a lot like that. It was a lot of work but nothing compared to what you accomplished. That’s impressive. How much does it weigh?
I would love to nerd out on radios and comms equipment in the rig, but I just use a baofeng HT. When I ride with someone without a HAM license, I toss them an extra midland FRS radio and we goof around like kids.
Great trip, guys! Had lots of fun seeing the O.B. Presence in my state.
We had an unfortunate Ham radio failure on the road to the event so we were unable to participate in the net, but it was still a huge success.

This will be my first time at this event. But the other driver I’m going with has attended and he says it’s very family friendly. His family will be coming along.
The event has 2 costs. One is the event cost, the other is the Byrd’s facility usage fee. The cost all depends on what you want to do while you’re there. Take a look at the link posted above and it’ll give you better details.
But it’s not much. I’m planning to spend about $100 total for the trip.
Myself and another rig are signed up and ready to go!
It looks like a great event!
Does anyone have gps style maps for Byrd’s that can be imported into Gaia?
Byrd’s PDF maps are useful, but it would be cool to have Gaia going in the rig.
I have a hair-brained idea: since they’re based on the same platform, can you swap Honda Ridgeline suspension components with the pilot? Aren’t they slightly larger for more durability and height?
If not, what modifications are needed?
This is something I would love to find out.
Victory! We made it from Arkansas to Florida!
I forgot to take a picture of the rig on the sand. So here’s a picture of our little family enjoying the beach instead.
At one point we even found a parking garage with 8’ of clearance so we could see some sights at a marina and shopping center...
