Idependent - cv axle pros and cons

There is no correct answer to this question. I have had both, and I prefer independent. Independent provides a smother ride at the expense of complexity and slightly less durability when comparing stock to stock. Most of the trails I do, do not require a solid axle, and being as most of them...

    Mid Atlantic Subaru Overlanders

We also started a new Mountain Roo chapter on Facebook dedicated to overland Subaru enthusiasts. Do a search for MtnRoo Overland on Facebook and join up. We are always happy to have more OB members in the group. More chit chat on trails and gear than "check out my crosstrek with methods" type...

...but it's a Subaru Outback?! Build thread.

Just my personal opinion, but light bars above the cab do more bad than good. The glare off of them makes it very hard to see anything. Especially if there is stuff in the air like rain, dust or snow.

    Lets See Your Dirtiest Pic!

Probably the dirtiest it has been. Got caught in a storm in the Badlands in Anza Borrego. The sand there is like concrete when it dries, so I had to wash it ASAP when I got home. Had enough dirt in the driveway to fill the bed of a dump truck. It was way dirtier than it looks since the sand/mud...

OB Approved Water Crossing: Snorkels and Preparation

If I am planning on fording water I also put a balloon or glove over my dip stick fill tubes and rubber band them on tight. I have had water intrusion through these areas before. Additionally any seals that are leaking will also let water in, so ensure your vehicle oil seals are in good shape...

Crossing a stream in flash flood

I agree with the others. The only time I would ever consider driving in a flash flood is if I absolutely had too. And for that to happen there would have to be no higher hills I could run up to/ or drive up too and I was in danger where I was at (IE going to die anyways). A few years ago in...

    SoCal Overlanders Roll Call :)

Idyllwild is big truck friendly. Mostly wide maintained forest service roads. Easy traveling with good scenery. I have been down Bee Canyon, Thomas mountain road, Rouse Hill Road, Table mountain truck trail, all over basically. Lots of trails plenty fine for a full size. Bee canyon has some...
