    We are planning some trips to the middle of nowhere, so I am getting a Starlink for communications and entertainment. Garmin has the inReach that can be used for emergencies communications also.

    3db vs 6db uses will depend on your environment. 6db flattens out the wave pattern to increase range and is better over flatlands. If you are more in mountains and the people you communicating with are at different elevations then a 3db may be better.

    They make no ground plane antennas so you may look in to that if you can't get a good SWR. If you have to high of SWR then you loose range and risk damaging your radio.

    I use a dual band VHF and UHF radio so I can use both GMRS and MURS frequencies. Planning on adding CB for roads that are being used by log trucks so I can hear them coming.
