Memorial Day Weekend. It is raining here in Sisters, but snowing () up on the mountains.
We just came back from another shakedown run with our two recent 4Runner builds. Nothing too technical since my wife is getting used to all the new options on the 5th Gen 4Runner (coming from a 1978 Land...
We too are waiting on our 2022 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium to arrive. Although we have been trying to order products for our 2021 4Runner TRDOff-RoadPremium (roof rack, lights, winch, front and rear bumpers, tires, and suspension/lift) so we are just being patient and not quite sure how we will...
The FJ40 is home. Two new setbacks have reared up. My clutch master cylinder started to leak through into the cab (will be my third replacement utch Master Cylinder) and a sudden grinding noise from the rear-end. Ugh, the rear-end was just rebuilt by my fabricator in CA. Several things to check now.
Thank you for your insight. I have install a Long Range America under seat 29 gallon tank. It utilizes a stock fuel sender. I have gone through the custom setup with a spare (new) fuel sender to use during the setup procedure.
I came across two other issues before I can move forward with phase...
I picked up my FJ40 from the Fabricator in CA and did a shake down drive back to Central Oregon (600 miles).
My fuel economy with the new engine is below my expectation (I may change the mufflers to free up some back pressure?). I also determined my Dakota Digital fuel gauge is not accurate as...
After almost a year, phase 1 update and refresh of my 1978 FJ40 is nearing completion. The supply chain for parts have been incredibly delayed. The V8, 5 speed, 4:1 Orion Transfer case, 4-wheel disc brakes, 29 gallon under seat and 24 gallon rear axillary tank installed. I added a/c and new...
Good day everyone!
I hope all of that plan to be out exploring and making an adventure for yourselves this Labor Day weekend travel safe.
As of September 3rd, 2021, the build-up on my 1978 FJ40 has been fraught with numerous delays due to part shortages, supply chain challenges, and resource...
As I found out, my modifications; large tires, non Toyota motor, transmission and transfer case along with upgraded brakes translated into an "Off-road-able" vehicle, not necessarily a classic show vehicle.
As my beloved FJ has sky rocketed in value vs what I originally paid for it and now...
I am sure some of you have already hit the same hurdle I have as I go through trying to update my insurance policy to better cover my non-stock Toyota FJ40.
I completely understand why you should not offer up a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ recommendation for any insurance company, but I am looking to see if anyone...
Just moved here and am in the process of getting settled in. We have a 2002 4Runner which continues to impress us during this latest snow storm, and a 1978 TLC FJ40, which is back in California getting a makeover (due to smog restrictions in CA, I have to update my tags which means getting it to...
I agree. It has been tough trying to see if my Weimaraner (dog), my wife and I would all squeeze into a teardrop-esque trailer. We have a queen sized bed in one of our spare bedrooms and tried sleeping in there with the dog for a couple nights. A couple of points...
1. My dog sleeps very warm...
I appreciate your well thought out input on this topic. My wife and have been talking about a trailer, since we are getting up in age and trying to haul a 60# dog up a ladder into a RTT just does not sound like fun. We are also taking into consideration it could be our bug-out accommodation...
Been talking with my fabricator and some of the suppliers. I just ordered the crate motor and hoping with all the new smog laws in CA, I will be able to pass the smog test? As I move through the process I will update.
Welcome to the family. I own an FJ40 and live over here in Central Oregon. Unfortunately, my beloved rig is with a fabricator back in CA getting several new mods. Long story why it is in CA and not OR. It will be here soon enough for me to enjoy all the trails around Central Oregon. Be Safe...
Moved in and just emptying out the boxes. The FJ40 is in the shop back in Livermore, CA to get a new engine, transmission, transfer case, disk brakes upgrade to all four wheels, 56 gallons of fuel (2 fuel cells) and a/c for the wife. Ready in late spring
There are so many Forestry roads to access in the area. Both East and West of town. There are several YouTube Channels devoted to overland adventures in and around the Central Oregon area. Bend is a community that is very much focused on the outdoors (check out visitbend.com) that it would be...
