I have a friend who owns a fairly large ranch.... like 35,000 acres. If I'm in the area and need a place to camp, I just call him and get permission to camp at his fire lookout. Love the view from there and so quiet when the wind isn't blowing. Spent the last two nights using it as a base of...
After the Northwest Overland Rally in Washington, I zipped home and resupplied to tour the Olympic National Park and Mt Rainier National Park.... It was a very nice trip and right in my backyard. We traveled north through the Olympic Rain Forest and up to Hurricane Ridge before dropping down to...
We should be able to accommodate that! I have a stove and cast iron pans in addition to the Skottle. Maybe there's another Skottle showing up as well. We'll figure it out!
We have a casual plan to meet for breakfast on Saturday, June 17th at the Northwest Overland Rally. I thought we had better get an official plan thread going and a head count so we know how many eggs to crack. This will be a Stone Soup Potluck Breakfast so bring something to contribute.
When...
Drove up to Puget Sound to chase Sea-run Cutthroat for the day. Fishing was slowish, but not for this guy. It's a bit hard to shoot from a bouncing boat with a very long lens, but IS helps.
Played hooky yesterday to gather intel for my weekly newsletter, a mental health day you might say. Ran into a old friend who builds bamboo fly rods and drives around the river in his restored Willys Jeep. Also ran into a few fish and the last of the Salmonfly hatch in the Maupin area. It's good...
I was a pro back in the "film" days and now just dabble for fun and personal projects. I have three simple suggestions.
Shoot what you can afford.
Master what you have and understand it's limitations.
Learn what makes a good photograph.
We get so worked up on equipment we forget that even...
Too busy fishing... once these pesky Salmonflies finish up we'll switch over to the Green Drakes on the Metolius. That Sweet Grass rod loves the Metolius and the misc. small Mayfly hatch...me too.
That's only part of the story... My rep filled me in on the losses yesterday, sad deal. That said, it was only the bamboo rod shop and I don't sell many of their boo rods. The graphite rod shop is unaffected. Winston plans to rebuild the boo shop bigger and better. They say they'll be running...
They're a little creepy when they crawl down your neck, but you get use to it. The hatch lasts about three weeks and normally works its way upriver as the river warms. Issues with dam operation are making it a little less predictable these days, then there's our changing weather.... It got warm...
Here in Oregon spring means one thing.... Salmonfly/Goldenstone hatch on the Deschutes. It's on. Well, it's started at least. It will take the fish a few days to key on them, but it should be rocking by later this week. Fun stuff.
So... I posted the above on the NWOB Facebook page and it looks like we're having breakfast at my place on Saturday morning at 7:00. The maid will just have to come in early to clean up the place...
I'll fire up my Skottle with a Camp Fry or breakfast Taco Bar. Everyone can bring something to...
Since there seems to be several members heading to Plain, WA in June for this event I've added it to the calendar. Maybe a good chance to meet-up with members from all around the Northwest... including those Canadians, eh? Perhaps we should plan a group breakfast on Friday or Saturday morning...
