    Rugged Radios....Yes or No?

Oh they definitely can with modification to many HF ham radios, but that’s a whole other subject.

    Rugged Radios....Yes or No?

All ham radio licenses require a test that you must study for. You can broadcast from just about anywhere with a ham radio, especially your vehicle. Frequencies that ham radios use are allocated to specific ranges of the radio spectrum. They generally will not operate within the Citizens Band.

I agree with the narrower tire aspect. I tend to look at tire weight when choosing a tire. Going narrower often helps. I’ve found that many factory wheels are also heavier than some aftermarket options.

I stand corrected for the 2019 year. https://www.forconstructionpros.com/trucks/trucks-accessories/pickup-trucks-vans/news/21074949/2019-honda-ridgeline-is-the-most-americanmade-truck

Yes sorry. I meant inline 6. I must of had the 4Runner engine on my mind. A good portion of my truck was made in Mexico. I’m not a big complainer about where things are made, but I do like seeing Americans getting jobs before things are outsourced. I prefer to buy American, but when it comes to...

That’s exactly why I’m asking people who own them what they are getting. Beyond that, epa ratings are with work truck level trims, windows up, air off, and 3.21 or higher gearing with grandma driving. I don’t believe them, so I like real world user input.

Looks like a TJ. 4.0 V6? Now that fiat has their hands in Chrysler, I’m scared of the problems that may arise from the new JL.

I’m on my phone at work, so pardon the brevity in this list. My Ram 1500 is meticulously maintained, and I don’t drive it hard. Prior to this I owned a Dodge Dakota (2007). It was superior in build quality to this ram. List of problems as of 84k miles on my Ram: Paint is highly susceptible to...

I know what you mean with the seat height and open seating arrangement. That’s a plus. Sorry to hear about those snafus with the Tundra. I’ve always believed the best way to learn is the hard way. Makes it easier the next time. Looks like you’ve got it sorted out now though. My Ram that I...

That is indeed a nice rig. That’s the kind of reliability that I’ve known to expect of when it comes to Toyota. I believe that whatever I choose among the 3 will be reliable. The rest comes down to what I like the most in the end and what suits my individual needs. Right now, I’m thinking...

    Rig selection

I know what you mean when it comes to the power. My 2 door ram has the Hemi with 3.92 gears. Plenty of power for a 5k lbs truck. Also having the bigger bed and interior over the Tacoma is a good selling point for me when it comes to the Tundra. One thing I’ve not been particularly enthused...

That’s pretty similar really. Thanks for the mpg info. How many miles do you have on the Tacoma and the 4Runner? Any reliability issues or mechanical work other than regular maintenance?

    Rig selection

Man that’s exactly the kind of answer I was looking for. I like hearing about experiences from someone who’s put miles on what I’m looking at. So having a bed is nice for just tossing stuff in, doing general hauling and work related things, but one downside for me is dust. Anything that goes...

It'll be a daily driver. 95% of the time, just me. Single guy ;) I don't mind tent sleeping. Not interested in an RTT at this time, perhaps down the road. Uses for me: Towing my 5x14 utility trailer, my ATV (Honda Rancher), some misc gear. Trailer is 800lbs. I've already considered those...

This thread solely applies to overlanders driving Toyota Tundras, 4runners, or Tacoma’s. Specifically, I want to hear from those of you who had kicked around the idea of a Tundra, 4Runner or Tacoma and what your deciding factors were when you made your final choice.. I.E.. towing, family, room...

    Fallen trees on the trail

When it comes to something like this and you're presented with multiple options, I tend to pick the safest one first. In this case, it's subjective. Which do you have more experience with? Is the downed tree elevated over the road? Lots of variables. Is there another route nearby that lets you...

What tire pressure are you running your e rated tires at for daily driving?

It's hard to say exactly. It depends on the weight of your rig mostly. My thought is that you should run them for awhile and check tread depth and tire wear. If you notice more tread wear in the center vs the edges, you'll know whether to increase or decrease tire pressure.

Winch Gloves: You use them Correct?

So I happen to carry loggers gloves.. I run a 10k warn with steel wire rope. I keep my cable in good shape, but ever been stabbed by a bur from a steel cable? It'll put a grown man down. It hurts bad! So.. I like to use these on the recommendation of a semi popular YouTuber by the name of...

    Rugged Radios....Yes or No?

When I was at SEMA 2016.. I spotted some blue baofeng UV-5R's from a distance while walking through the off road section. As I got closer, I realized it was re branded as "rugged radios" and about crapped my pants when I saw the prices they wanted.. I laughed out loud and waited a moment to ask...

    Recovery Bag Recommendations

Haha.. I think I got mine on amazon years ago for less than $20.. in hindsight, I could of gone to the thrift store or goodwill and paid more like $2. Reminds me of a line from My Cousin Vinny... "Imagine you're a deer. You're prancing along. You get thirsty. You spot a little brook. You put...
