    Ford Ranger Overland Build

I'm sad that you have a ding in the front fender already :disappointed: I love my Ranger! Anyone who says it needs a 6 cylinder engine hasn't driven one. Damn thing scoots! At some point, I'l start a build thread for mine. I'll probably get a Trigger+ because I don't like my wiring job for my...

    2019 Ford Ranger Build (Trigger)

I had to adjust the headlights when I leveled the front. Right now with just normal camping weight in the back, its fine.

    2019 Ford Ranger Build (Trigger)

I'm still debating the OME springs. I'll wait until I get the camper and make the decision if I need them then. Were you getting much sag before installing the new kit?

    Ford Ranger

I've got a '20 FX4 Lariat Supercrew . Love it so far, about 13k miles on it. I replaced the FX4 shocks with Ford Performance Parts Fox 2.0 front and rear. Needs better tires, the stock Hancooks AT are made for the street, not offroading. The 5 foot bed is a bit tiny. I have a pullkitchen coming...

Hike-In/Walk-in Only Campsite Trend? Why is this happening?

All kinds of dispersed camping in the WMNF. Only problem is you have to hike to it. I know of Tripoli RD (Triple-eye is how it pronounced). Camping along it and a forest service road off RT3 that has campsites, Haystack RD. Those are the only ones I know of. The WMNF has something like 1400...

    National forest service annual pass

My GF and I went up to Acadia National Park a couple weeks ago to get our Veteran's pass. We figured there was a better chance there than at the WMNF. Nope, drove the 3.5 hours to Bar Harbor and they didn't' have any passes, but it was nice driving around the parts of the park that was open with...

Leaving your 12v fridge plugged in?

My Dometic CFX75DZ has been plugged in since I bought it. When not camping, its storing extra food. There was a recall notice I received recently saying not to keep our Dometic plugged in to both 12V and 110V. Choose one, unplug the other.

    A Delicate Question

@Road Thank you for all you do. Happy to see I'm not the only one hauling other people's trash out of the woods. Popular trail heads in NH were shut down due to the amount of human debris left behind. This Covid thing really messed up the hiking in Maine and NH.

Deal on water cans (LCI) update with link to insulated carrier page 6

Mine came in today, they were green. Looks like they are new cans. Still says "Property of US Government" on them. The cats really like the box they shipped in.

    Hatchet or machete?

The Arny still used Machetes when I was in. Engineer tool boxes had them as standard issue. Had a sharperner in the sheath so every time you removed and replaced it, it fixed the edge. Pretty nice for clearing underbrush for firing lanes

    Dispersed Camping

The only National Forest I'm intimately familiar with is the White Mountains. Only two roads that I know of that one can camp with their vehicle. The rest is either for backpackers/hikers or campsites where there is a fee. I've seen on some of the FS roads, pullouts where it looks like one could...

    Higher Fuel Prices And Overlanding

I started my work life working for farmers. $.50 an hour picking rocks and sticks out of new pastureland. in the '70's. Started in retail making $1.40 an hour, I think that was minimum wage back then, 1980 or so. I know it wasn;t very much to put up with cranky shoppers. After I got out of the...

    HOT DEAL

Yes, they are. Much more rugged than the thin plastic walmart ones. The military style were abused when I was in the army and never had a problem with them. I'm afraid if I dropped one of the walmart ones, the plastic would explode and I'd lose the water.

Thanks for posting. I picked up a couple and some loop tiedowns.

    Higher Fuel Prices And Overlanding

There is an Irving station in Bethel, ME that has 6 or 7 Tesla charging stations. It's in Western Maine, logging, fishing, hunting, canoeing and hiking country. I would stop there to get gas occasionally when traveling to hike or maintain hiking trails in Grafton Notch. I used to park in the...

    Higher Fuel Prices And Overlanding

The GF and I are headed out west to explore in June, or whenever my Go Fast Camper is finished. We are budgeting $1000 for fuel. I would rather not go over budget. We decided our vacation trip is going to be dependant on fuel prices now, rather than time. When we start to run out of money, we'll...

Trying to select the correct vehicle for first overland build

I have a Ranger FX4 that I'm now building up to be as capable as a Ranger Tremor, that Ford just released. I picked the Ranger over the Tacoma because of the godawful seating in the Tacoma, the Nissan was old and dated and I don't like GM or Chrysler products. Coupled with a pullkitchen and a Go...

    Overlanding for Practicality

As primarily a hiker, I can attest to being prepared for off grid, SHTF scenarios. I always have an assortment of non-perishable food stuffs, iso-butane fuel canisters, stoves, water filters and bottles, warm clothing, shelters, foul-weather gear and the like. Pretty much anyone who spends any...
