It was great. Yes, the road was open and it was fairly busy. Lots of places to camp. The road was rough in some spots but overall not too bad. Quite a few Subarus made it up past the second stream crossing.
Here’s a shot of the worst part:
Yeah I remember seeing that area. I had initially planned on setting up there but couldn’t tell if it was open so I moved on. It looks like a great spot from your pic though.
Yeah I went Saturday night only but by the time I left Sunday morning it had cleared out for he most part. I think most people left before dark on Saturday. Lots of people parking at the bottom and hiking in for the day too. Great spot. Can’t wait to go back!
Just to chime in, my wife uses a CPAP and since we’re camping this weekend I gave it a trial run using our Jackery 500 the other night. Went from 100% to 82% after about 8.5 hours. Should last the weekend no problem.
It wasn’t too bad except for maybe one small section. I’m in a slightly lifted 4WD Tacoma with KO2s. There were a few bone stock Subarus that made it past the second creek crossing though. Up at the lake it was mostly full size pickups and Jeeps. I even saw a Chevy Astro van go by. Total hero...
Fellow Sac area resident here. This looks like an awesome route and trip. I'll be doing a week long trip to Alabama Hills, Joshua Tree, Mojave, and Death Valley in April so my time off will be shot for awhile. Hopefully I can make it to Overland Expo next year. Have a great time!
I prefer a ground tent. Had a Tepui mounted on a small trailer but the fold in half design didn’t work out for me. My hip lined up perfectly with the crease in the mattress and was really uncomfortable. It felt like sleeping on the ground. Just picked up a Gazelle T3 on Black Friday. Can’t wait...
It should have a peel off backing that reveals an adhesive If I remember correctly.
Edit: if that’s not there than 3M makes a double sided adhesive that is used for auto emblems and small spoilers and such.

98% sure I spotted Michael/Corrie in the LC headed eastbound on I-80 above Colfax today around 11am. KC lites and jerry cans looked to be a match. I was westbound so didn't get a good look.
