and if you've been looking for a slightly used dozer, bring a trailer everyone topped up with gas at Jarbidge. This is the gas pump. I thought this would be the most expensive gas ($7.86/gal) and the most unique gas pump I would see on the trip. I was wrong on both counts. It is premium...

Some interesting sights around town I like the "Hens on Holiday"

It's an interesting little town with several places to see, get there early and look around. This is the Community Center. Max occupancy of 50 should never be an issue with a year round population of 20. They have a permanent garage sale that goes on with the proceeds going to maintenance...

US Northwest Idaho BDR (and then some!)

Six of the seven participants met up at the Jarbidge Campground, just north of town the night before starting Nice spot right by a river The seventh attendee was there at the appointed time, here is the lineup. There was a nice lady there, that owned the Outdoor Inn, that was interested...

Good info all around, thanks all! Packing today for AM departure tomorrow. Doesn't sound like there will be many campfires. Looking forward to getting out on the trail.

I should be rolling into Jarbidge early Wednesday afternoon. I want to spend some time looking around and take a few photos before checking out the campgrounds. I'll be in an Anvil JKU. There shouldn't be too many Texas plates running around town.

    Newbie comms questions (HAM/GMRS/APRS)

If you have several groups of hikers going off in different directions, having a repeater in the middle of the area could possibly allow communications when otherwise it would not be possible. Think a vehicle parked high on a ridge and hikers on foot descending steep terrain on both sides...

I had the same problem. I used a velcro cable tie to wrap the mic cables in the middle so they weren't long enough to slap me in the side of the head. I left just enough on the "MIC" side to comfortably reach it when talking. You can see where I wrapped them right in the middle of the photo...

That looks like the 147.16 repeater. I'll get that configured. Do you have a "standard" HAM frequency that everyone uses on the trail? I had been using a Baofung 8 watt handheld and wanted something with a little more power, but didn't want to pay $500-$600 for a mobile radio and I found...

Still a long way out, but I'm thinking I'll stay Wednesday night at one of these. What little information I can find on them, they seem pretty similar. USFS, vault toilet, free, etc.... Anyone else?

Yes, it's anvil. I really like the Snazzberry (deep maroon) on the newer models, but of course it wasn't available in '15. I forgot too I've done the SOCAL BDR and also have been all the way to Prudhoe Bay, AK. The Wyoming BDR was released this year, I hope to be able to do that next year.

Paul, I just RSVP'd for the IDBDR and would like to join you for the western portion of the Trans America Trail also. I have a 2015 Wrangler Sport. I started overlanding in 2017 have done the NMBDR, AZBDR, the Arizona Peace Trail, the Heart of the West, numerous trips in and around Moab and...
