2018 TRD pro VS 2018 Chevy ZR2 for overlanding

There are many variables in choosing how to outfit your rig. The ARB has kind of become the gold standard for selectable lockers, but that comes with a price. If your going to wheel a brand new rig that probably doesn’t really matter. Personally I’d never run a Detroit in a daily driver.

2018 TRD pro VS 2018 Chevy ZR2 for overlanding

It doesn’t sound like they come with that traditional Toyota reliability though. At least that’s what I’ve gathered in casual forum reading.

Have they released a price yet?

That new ZR2 Bison seems interesting too with the AEV skid plates and bumpers, snorkel, etc. I haven’t seen a price, but I know they’re all way out of my price range!

    Tires you choose and why?

My next set will be Falken Wildpeak AT3W. They’ve got the mountain snowflake rating and a 55,000 mile warranty. I’ve read many threads with nothing but praise. I’d love a little more aggressive look, but they should be perfect for my 20 mile commute to the ski resort I work at.

    6x10 trailer

Sure, if the axle has camber in it. If it’s a straight axle, no. I’ve seen it done in other forums, YMMV.

    What is Overlanding?

That may be, but it’s still better than most! There’s a brand specific forum that comes to my mind, it’s name is a combination of Discovery and World Wide Web. Theyre bottom feeders, and proud of it.

What was the worst thing you purchased for your rig? Why?

I go used whenever possible, assuming the price is right. With the help of forums like this it’s pretty easy to find out if the off brand stuff is worth it or not. Most of the stuff I’ve looked at has been.

    What is Overlanding?

Well, I generally find this forum to be more civilized than others that are similar. This particular thread is probably the worst I’ve read and it’s been pretty civilized. Fewer trolls, less flaming and way fewer 4 letter words. Don’t forget the tangible items you got with your membership as well.

    What is Overlanding?

They’re not that great. They ride like a luxury car on the freeway (I’ve put nearly 30k on mine this year), get decent gas mileage for a 7 passenger, have a good safety record and are excellent off road. Plus, they still look like a proper Land Rover, not some rounded over crossover.

    What is Overlanding?

At $8500 they’re smokin’ something funny. I’ve seen ones like that for $3k According to the interview I listened to he was at the factory for a tour when the last defender was coming off the line. They had a restored Series I in a show room for a photo shoot and he asked them why. They...

    What is Overlanding?

I paid around $5600 for my ‘06 last fall. I doubt you could find any Series for that money. Like everything Land Rover, the problems are overblown. For some reason they’re the brand everyone loves to rag on. Mine needed a a suspension compressor that wore out due to pin holes in a front air...

    What is Overlanding?

Your opinion is yours, my opinion is mine. Any statements I have made are not necessarily the views of station management or ownership. I don’t KNOW what Overlanding is. I do see what the word has come to represent and I don’t care for it. My opinion. In my statements I have tried not to single...

    What is Overlanding?

I get where you’re coming from, but this may be a little too far in the opposite direction. You are living the relicrun.com every time you go out. I don’t think modern gadgetry is detrimental. It doesn’t, however, make you an overlander because you have it. I’m not sure your rig is great example...

    5th gen 4Runner on 20” rims question

I shredded a 275/65/18 Duratrac on my LR3 before I even knew it was flat. I was on a very rocky road that might be more hard core than you think you’ll go with yours. I probably got a sidewalk puncture and couldn’t have saved it anyway, but by the time I even realized it was flat, it was...

    What is Overlanding?

I was just listening to the story of the Oxford Rover from First Overland being tracked down and returned to the road on the Centre Steer podcast. Incredible story. The use of the word doesn’t bother me, it’s just silly when compared to the use of it in that book.

    What is Overlanding?

I don’t take offense to it. It’s just become kind of cliche. This line is great. It’s become more about a look. It has become a brand new Toyota, with a RTT, Hi-Lift and all the expensive kit you can add to it, quickly followed by the obligatory “just get out there with what you’ve got”...
