Thanks for the feedback. I've thought about making a stop at NW Overland Rally, but I doubt the family would have as much fun as I would, plus we've got a lot of ground to cover. I'm acutally debating on cutting out a few places, just so we wouldn't be driving so much.

So I ended up selling the Gobi roof rack. I ultimately felt a flat rack would suit my needs more. I ended up going with a flat, low profile rack made by Prinsu.
Pros:
Weight, i think it's about 1/2 the weight of Gobi
Flat..allowing me to make trips to home depot easier
