Your reaction is exactly how I reacted to our T4. After using it a few times, I hope you, too, will find the size and weight are worthwhile tradeoffs for the fast setup, spacious interior, large windows, etc.

From my limited knowledge of the trail and Toyota trucks, I think you'll be OK.

I've only done a very small section of this loop, but from that very limited perspective, I would have concerns about a stock vehicle other than a stock 4wd vehicle. Others, with better knowledge of this loop, will be able to offer greater insight.
