I'm just not sure that with this little sidewall I will gain much footprint by airing down...or maybe just increase my chances of slipping a bead.
I'm running a 215/60 on a 16" rim, essentially a 26.2" diameter.
Thanks for the advice! I agree...holding on the break when you are already sliding only hurts your chances. I usually pulse the brakes and try to steer the best line possible.
I should be clear though. I was specifically asking about offroad only.
Although I usually do drop a few psi during...
Hello. I didn't see anything about this...but maybe someone here has had experience with this.
I'm wondering if airing down even with these smaller snow tires on a 16" rim could help gain a little traction in the snow and mud offroad.
Is anyone running a similar setup that can give some advice...
Mine worked excellently. I hit some sticky mud on the way up that didn't want to come off of my tires...which afforded me the chance to do a little offroad decoration on the sides and illustrate just how much I need mudflaps.
After that...not a single problem getting traction anywhere on dirt...
They are "Winter Claw"? It's not a name I'm famailiar with. I bought them this summer for a really good price with 80% tread...so I wasn't picky about brand this time.
Hi. I'm Rob. My car is a '95 Legacy L AWD automatic wagon.
I've spent most of my life in Southeast Washington and North East Oregon.
I've had a few offroad vehicles before:
1988 Dakota SE long bed 4x4
1994 Silverado single cab 4x4 with 33's
1984 Suzuki SJ410 with flipped axles, and 31's
So...
Very true. My Silverado was a great offroad and on backroads...but pretty underwhelming on the interstate; especially with 33s and stock gearing. Although...nowhere near as sad as my Sj410 with 31s and stock gearing...of course the SJ was even more fun offroad...if my spine could have taken the...
Those are some interesting looking wagons.
I've had quite a few Sizes as well. Think the biggest was my '94 Silverado reg. Cab with 33s. There are times I really miss the v8 torque and the gearing in 4lo.
The closest thing I've had to station wagon before, was a vanagon.
87 4runner? I'm a little jealous...That was my other choice for a build...but I went with the Wagon for mileage and handling reasons.
Personally I like the 1st Gen 4runners, although I've not owned one.
Well, I definitely don't have to worry about a first dent...someone took care of that for me.
Before I owned it...and the seller was nice enough to include a perfect green door. I will very likely be working on painting the door to match this winter, so I can mount it in spring.
You're right about that...there is at least some offroad purposed aftermarket for the Legacy although most of what I've done so far was with factory Subaru parts or universal aftermarket. They don't make a lot of stuff for the 2nd Gen legacys anymore which is why it's essential for my build that...
Yeah! I just saw the walk around video on the OB youtube channel! That thing is awesome! I love his bumpers...but I don't think I would do steel...I don't have a Turbo...I'd have to crawl up passes on the highway.
I'm a little jealous of the Forester as far as it having a bit more aftermarket...
