Front bumper addition = upgrade suspension?

I have the same truck and did a 3" Old Man Emu lift before adding the front bumper and winch. My bumper is a lot lighter than the ARB. About 40 pounds more than the OEM bumper. It and winch dropped my height about a quarter inch. You should be okay with stock suspension. It will probably stiffen...

    Mr Buddy Heater Yes/No

For my RTT I've found the little buddy 3800 BTU was plenty to knock the chill off. It has safety features that shuts it off if it falls over or low oxygen but I don't trust it enough to sleep with it on. The base it comes with isn't very sturdy so I invested another $8.00 to get a Stansport base.

Your most rewarding campsite experience ever

I've been going camping with my family since I was "knee high to a jackrabbit" as grandpa used to say. The one trip that really stands out in my memory was when I was around 9 or 10 years old. We were in the Guadalupe Mountains in southern New Mexico on top of a high peak camping pretty...

    2 Specific Questions

I got my RTT from CVT and I'm really happy with it. I like it a lot better than a ground tent. Having said that...if I had a chance to do it over I probably would get this one It looks to be about the same quality and size at a much better price. I've got a lot of Smittybilt products and they...

    Two Spare Tires?

I carry two. One in the original space under the bed and one on an aftermarket steel bumper with swingout. So no valuable space wasted in the bed or roof rack.

What is the last thing you bought and plan to buy?

Last thing was a tire cover for my bumper mounted spare. Just a plain black one. Next on the list is a small fire extinguisher to mount on my bed rack

Any black powder shooters amongst us?

Last year I got a Pietta 1858 New Army .44 caliber and have really enjoyed it. I didn't know anyone locally to help me learn to use it but I found a lot of good videos on youtube and have managed not to blow my hand off so far. Next I want to try my hand at building a Hawken .50 cal from a kit...

    Geocaching

I like it just to get out and see places I haven't seen. I love history and I just recently found an old 19th century cemetary I never knew existed (thanks to a cache) that I'd passed by a hundred times. I haven't been in awhile but now it's warming up so I can start going again.

    Legal Weapons and Overlanding

Here in NM the police get suspicious if you tell them you don't have a gun in the truck. It's one of the most firearm friendly states. We can legally keep a loaded handgun/rifle/shotgun in the vehicle either concealed or open without a permit. I'm not a hunter but I've always kept a gun of some...

Thank you. Bend, OR huh? I think that's where my tent was from.

    Your favorite chair

I like this one because it folds up into a small package. It's pretty comfy and has a cooler to keep my "soda pop" cold. And I got it "free" from my Amazon credit card cash back points. :grinning:

    Favorite Trail Meals

It's always just me and the pup on our excursions so we like to keep it simple and quick Breakfast: Eggs. There's no wrong way to cook an egg. Fried, scrambled, boiled, poached, omelette. With bacon, fried spam, picante sauce, green chili, roasted red peppers, breakfast burrito. I like eggs in...

What do you consider a "trail?"

I went down a Forest Service road near me that even has a sign saying it was a FS road. Trust me, it was a trail. I'm pretty proud of my Tacoma and it's well-deserved reputation as an off-road beast. But I reached a point in that "road" where I said "no way". Even with a 3" lift, sliders and...

What piece of gear made the biggest improvement to your experience?

Number one would be my RTT. My Tacoma was a trail crawling beast right off the lot but nearly impossible to get a good nights sleep in it. The cabin is a bit cramped and the shortbed too short for stretching out. I could have survived with a ground tent but I really like it so no regrets.

Hello everyone. I'm a retired truck driver from southeastern NM. Now I have the time to do things I couldn't when I was young enough to do them. And way too much time to think of new things to do to my rig. Experience: I guess driving a truck 25+ years makes me an experienced overlander. I've...
