For what it's worth, I was in Torrey, UT in the Grand Staircase/Escalante region Sept. 14th when it received an absolute deluge of rain. Nearly all unpaved roads closed and no where to camp due to all the standing water. It was more water than I have personally seen in the area. (I was in the...
I'd be game as I live just to the North of Lake Samm but the NW Offroad Expo will be Sept 23rd at Thomas Family Farm. The flavor looks different than the NW Overland Rally (which I really enjoyed) but it is much cheaper and I'm going to go check it out

I'm curious, are you saying the OME shocks would support more weight than the Bilstein 5100s? I've always been under the impression that the OMEs gave the best ride but that was because they were more compliantb& the 5100s were stiffer & less compliant.
FYI, I just learned that the NW Offroad Expo will be Sept 23rd at Thomas Family Farm. The flavor looks different than the NW Overland Rally (which I really enjoyed) but it is much cheaper and I'm going to go check it out.

Welcome from Redmond WA. There are quite a number of us up here-also, you just missed Michael & Corrie up here about a month or two ago. Fun looking selection of vehicles!

Unfortunately, you have hit the fire season nail on the head. We awoke in Seattle today to a "snow" of ash covering everything. There are currently 3 big fires in the WA Cascades: One on the backside of Mt. Rainier, one in the Cle Elum/Salmon La Sac area & one around Lake Chelan/Leavenworth...
That's pretty broad. What kind of trip? What type of activity do you want to do or like? Where are you coming from & what's your basic route? Also, very important up here-what season/month are you coming?

Sold my SPOT, got an InReach...much happier.
InReach is much better bang for the buck and has two way verified comm and lots of other nifty features. InReach is based on the Iridium network which has true global coverage and is way more reliable.
I use my InReach often (offshore sailing...
As to flash floods. I think experience with them is the best educator. People living outside of desert areas just don't see flowing water over roads the way those in the SW do. That said, we were driving down remote slot canyons off the Burr trail SW of Boulder, UTon Sept 15th, 2015. No radio...
FYI, SPOT messengers are also good family notifiers. My Mom is 70+ and goes Overlanding with her dog in her modified Jeep. I can track her remotely & she can send basic msgs, i.e. OK, Need Assistance, S.O.S./Need help. A great way to reassure family. I can even zoom in on her campsite via Google...
Hello & welcome from Redmond! Here & there are some good posts re trails up Mt. Baker way & especially over the Cascades. I too am hoping to do the entire WABDR next summer with my family & 2 vehicles. JDunk has a nice YouTube of his family doing it last year (he did ORBRDR this year). You also...
That's good to know. My Mom's WK made her very happy but it's loss was an emotional & financial strain. Rails & a 2" lift made it a pretty competent vehicle. She & I both have done a lot of CO & UT with it! Unfortunately, it had developed some other notable problems so it is awaiting a sad end...
Saw the Trailhawk on your WBDR You Tube. As an FYI, if you Commander is the hemi from ~2005-09 look up the issue with the valve seat dropping. We just lost a 2006 JGC Overlander at only 147K & immaculately maintained when the valve seat on #4 dropped. ~9K for a new engine or $4.5K for a rebuilt...
