    Thank you so much for this post. I live in Enterprise AL just outside Ft Rucker, I'm also retired military, so I'm somewhat familiar with training areas. I went online and got my pass, very easy, now I'm ready to go.

    I can't speak for GMRS but the biggest thing you look for is power output. The reason CBs aren't good except for group communication is the fact that they are limited to 5 watts transmit power which doesn't give you the range you need. I know with ham radios that your average 2m rig is 50 watts...

    You put that very well sir. I run what I know and haven't delved into GMRS, FRS, SPOT or others so I couldn't speak to that. You have made some valid points and maybe this old dog can learn some new tricks.

    I have had a 2m ham radio in every truck I have owned for the last 15 years. It has definitely helped in situations that I needed good comms. There is such a good network of repeaters out there that you can keep in contact even you are deep in the woods.

    That's my same problem, I want bushwackers but cutting around the snorkel looks like a pain.

    I promise you that if you install the snorkel you won't regret it. Just remember that you need to do the "scuba" mod for the rear diff and e locker. There are videos on YouTube and the mod is super easy and was less than 30 bucks. Take my word for it, the snorkel is worth it. Got real close to...
