Around the rim of the Reservoir there is camping (fee) that are nicely set up we’ve stayed at when I was younger. Out of town you should have no problem finding camping spots. What’s bringing you to Elk River and what direction are you traveling? We’ve snowmobiled up there quite a bit in the...
I’d be interested in what you find out. We’re a few hours north and havent explored much of the area there other than passing through on backroads to Deadwood Reservoir. Beautiful country to explore.
I keep my benchmark size maps and other maps etc in a semisoft laptop carrying bag. Have some headrest hooks that fit the handle and hang on the back of my drivers seat. Allows easy access as i also make out some trips with a highlighter as we go.
We have one, use it when just boiling water and dont want to break out the stove and have been impressed. not having to carry additional iso fuel for my older msr has been a plus as well. Haven’t ever had a jet boil to compare it to, but works great for us.
My biased vote would be go with the 100 for the longterm. The LX can be found cheaper thus why I picked up a 98 with 230k. If you register on Lexus website and have the VIN you can see maintenance records from the dealership. We love ours and when initially purchased figured I’d have to factor...
I was hoping someone with First hand experience would have answered this as I’m debating the same a 4.25 vs 11lb. We mostly only do 1-2 night trips cooking for 2-3, so I’m leaning towards the 4.25# to get away from green 1#. However if we threw the buddy heater into the mix often with longer...
Mud is a great resource for the LC. Initially I started out looking for a 3rd gen 4Runner as my 1st gen Tacoma was great, however not large enough for now having a family. Only found high mileage over priced 3rd gens. Then stumbled upon the 98 Lx470 we purchased, price was right with service...
Been busy with family events recently, but managed to squeeze in a quick trip over the Lolo Motorway with some good friends. Stopped off for lunch at Rocky Ridge lake, then was on to Castle Butte Lookout for a quick stop. Overnight at Horseshoe lake with showers and fogged in for the last...
Over the weekend the better half picked up some shifts so I utilized the time at home to install some load support bags and a prophylactic change of the radiator. She got off at 6pm Sunday and had said she wanted to watch the meteor shower so surprised her and headed out of town down to the...
When we ran it “backwards” earlier this summer from Elk City to Clearwater (didnt run to Harpster the “start”) the only detour was the logging by Newsome during the week. We did not run Pilot Knob due to time. By Newsome they were clearing a lot of overhead branches that were still on the road...
