I got it with the extension as well. It does the job and as mentioned above it was cheap. This was over kill packing, I had to bring extra for some friends and didn’t really pack it well but as you can see it fits a good amount of gear.

I have a basket for now and it works for me and cheap as well but I do want a flat rack.

I would love to go but we are going to Hatteras around the same time.

I am a chef(as if you couldn't tell by the name) so I don't really use recipes unless I am baking something. While deciding what you want to cook just cut and paste recipes from epicurious or whatever and paste it to your "notes" app on your phone. That way you don't have to pack an extra book...

As far as getting unsalted water in the obx it depends are where you are, sound side is usually fine. It if you are right on the beach it is a bit briny. You can always find a house that not rented and fill up there. A friend of mine showered for a whole week in someone's outdoor shower!

We want to do a Portsmouth Island excursion next year. Looks like ya'll had a fun trip!
