Exposed Racks Roof Rack for RTT

...I've done extensive research and keep going back to exposed racks. I don't want to drill or cage my Jeep. I like their Click-in system for quick tent set up and removal and the fact that I can convert the crossbars to soft top (or no top) racks. Does any one have experience using this brand...

My storage trunks and suggestions to organize better?

...gate. all under a shell. There is a box for dry goods and wine. Water is in 2,5 gal jugs that I have had for 40 years. If you are packing the tent, pads, chairs kind of stuff in a box you are wasting space, put that in a box and there are all kinds of voids, put it in the back and use it to...

    Backyard's M416 Overland Trailer Build!

With 2 days to spare I finished the trailer just before we planned to leave in our vacation. Had 3 friends help me out the tent on the rack then took it out for a test drive. She towed great. 75mph no problem as long as the roads are smooth. We went to CO for 2 weeks. The first few...

    Overlandish Basecamp

The Basecamp has been awesome! We have been using it for over a year now and it has been wonderful. Still haven’t had a large downpour to test it in though, but overall I am very happy with our purchase.

Use of MAXTRAX boards other than recovery

Definitely a good move, I try to get bright colors for safety and it’s much harder to lose!

Use of MAXTRAX boards other than recovery

I buy most of my gear in bright orange. My traction boards, life vest, kayak paddles, dry bag, ground tent, etc. all orange.

    Rack vs cross bars

roof racks will be noisier when driving, but they typically can handle more weight by design. i have cross bars on two different vehicles and they work for what im doing, but i would personally go roof rack for the tent

    Rack vs cross bars

I have a 2016 4Runner and I am ordering the 3 person Nomadic Extender roof tent. What should I get to support the tent, a roof rack or will cross bars suffice and which do you recommend?

    Rooftop Tent Question

...pretty rough terrain. The ladders come down to the body combing and supports the aft end of the rack...and the bulk of our weight while in the tent. The front of the rack is captured on the gutter...but I have dispersed the load with 4 hard rubber blocks glued into position. These blocks...

    Rooftop Tent Question

...I did do some upgrades such as make it taller when I changed to a taller roof. https://poppageno.blogspot.com/2022/01/land-rover-109-raising-roof-rack.html I ran a Tepui tent on it for a couple of years, until I got tired of climbing up and down 3-4 times just to set it up or take it down.

    Rooftop Tent Question

Appreciate the response! I'm usually solo in my 118lb Smittybuilt Overlander RTT so, like you said, I haven't had any issues with static load up to this point so probably okay with continued use. Thanks!

    Rooftop Tent Question

...I finally found the answer to why they do not recommend it on Thule's site So the concern is your roof getting deformed, so if you put a big tent and add say 2 adults and 2 young children the static load may cause damage where the mount rests on the roof. Functionally denting the roof. I...

    Colorado/Utah Road Trip!

Since I bought my 2017 Jeep GC in 2019 and put the rooftop tent on it not long after that, and discovered dispersed camping and "overlanding", I really really love these trips even more.
