MPG is as much a product of personal commitment as it is vehicle capability. In the avatar picture to the left I had done a 1500 mile round trip to Tennessee and back. I have around 550 lbs of steel armor, the RTT and awning, and a couple hundred pounds of gear in the back. I was curious on...
I have a couple led lanterns I hang off branches around the edges of the site or under the awning once it's up. Those inexpensive "As seen on TV" kind you telescope so you can vary how much light is shown. I also carry a few Nite-Ize wire wraps if I need to add to the hangars.
Some small 4" pod...
Tube steaks being boiled to oblivion on my single burner propane stove, ketchup, maybe a little shredded cheese. Vienna sausages straight out of the can come in a close 2nd. Ah simplicity. Lol
I generally air down to 20 psi because that seems to be the popular pressure for most members of my club. I remember 12 was considered the minimum to keep the beads seated in the old bias ply days, but I honestly don't know what is considered a minimum on steel belted tires. I have been as low...
Mine is on the B pillar behind my shoulder. A lot of members seem to like to mount this on the upper front fender area where most manufacturers have engine size or model emblems. If yours is flat enough they should look good there. I also put a yellow decal on each C pillar.
Having just spent 24 hours at the Appalachian Toyota Roundup at Windrock Park in Tennessee I can honestly say they both have their advantages. I had been camping with a Coleman 8 man cabin tent and 2 cots until this year. It was great for setting up a base camp in one location and wheeling over...
I don't have first hand experience, but I had always understood the OME shocks gave a stiffer ride. So I figured they had a heavier damping setup for more weight. The 5100's, when installed on a stock 4R will only very slightly stiffen the ride. It's almost not a noticeable difference except...
I came, I saw, I surrendered. I got to the Appalachian Toyota Roundup in Tennessee Thursday afternoon and set up camp in the rain. After 24 hours basically trapped under the awning or in the tent I gave up Friday night, packed up between rain showers, and headed toward the house. I think if I...
I came, I saw, I surrendered. I got there Thursday afternoon and set up camp in the rain. After 24 hours basically trapped under the awning or in the tent I gave up Friday night, packed up between rain showers, and headed toward the house. I think if I had brought a ground tent I would probably...
I'm running Bilstein 5100's all around. The fronts are set at 0 with OME 885 springs for 2" lift. The rears are Toytec +10% Superflex for 2" of lift. But I installed those before I installed the CBI bumper, RTT, and I normally carry about 200 pounds of gear in the back. It rides body level when...
Just as an FYI you'll lose about 3/4" on the factory front springs with that bumper and a winch. I did when I installed the SSO Slimline and a winch totaling about 130 lbs. You may be looking at a suspension upgrade sooner than you'd planned. :hushed:
Shoot me a message and we can exchange phone numbers. I expect to get there the afternoon/early evening of Thursday, and I'll be camping near the entrance that night. I'm supposed to meet up with some folks from Louisiana Overland but they won't be getting there until late Friday. If it's any...
The multi loop straps you're thinking of are for hanging gear or intended for climbers for all their carabiners and climbing gear. Not heavy duty enough for your needs.
Looks good. Just as a comment on all the grip tape discussion. I bought ladder and step non-skid tape at Lowe's for my CBI bumper so I could have a less slippery surface while I was standing on it. 18 months later it has shown no signs of wear or fraying around the edges. I plan to add some to...
Are the side rails slotted so the crossbars can be moved forward and back? If so a metal shop should be able to set you up. If not, look for a Thule or similar solution that uses your factory crossbars. They're out there. Something like this that you can mount to either the slots vertically, or...
