I have some routes through Awandaw/Francis Marion National Forest including the Old King's Highway from colonial days and I've been working on stuff in Williamsburg County.
Do you have a way to send the map you already plotted so far?
When you get to South Dakota, stop at 1880 Town (1880 TOWN). It's right off of I-90 and close to the Badlands. It's basically a recreated town from the 1880's along with some other roadside attractions (Dances with Wolves props and stuff) and an old train that's been turned into a diner. For...
I'm moving up from the T3 to the T4 or T4 Plus for a cross country trip next summer with the family. Outside of a rooftop box like a Thule or Yakima, how is everyone transporting the larger tents on roof racks?
I'm skeptical of just tossing the tent in the bag on the roof since the...
If something happens and the St. Louis Zoo doesn't pan out, check out the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site. It's a massive pre-Columbian Native American city right outside of St. Louis.
I feel your pain. I'm trying to plan our trip for next year and I'm running into the same problems. My solution is to just Motel 6 or Red Roof Inn in until we get west of the Mississippi for the little bit of sleep we get. I have two small kids (7 & 4) and it just seems easier for me to throw...
I just reread your post and wanted to chime in some more.
Definitely interstate it until you get to the Dakotas. Along I-90 there are several cool spots to serve as a jumping off point: the Corn Palace in Mitchell, 1880 Town is cheesy but fun, the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site is...
Second on the skottle. I just can’t justify it.
My wife knows how much they are because she was going to buy me one for Christmas so it’s not like I can just pull the, “check out my skottle. It only cost $60” line.
Interstate it until you get to South Dakota.
The pine forests of Missouri and Kentucky are the same as those in South and North Carolina.
They aren’t so much trails but not-so-well-maintained county roads in the northeast portion of Wyoming near Devil’s Tower that are pretty neat.
And be sure...
I used the T3 last weekend in 34 degree weather and I give it a thumbs up. I wanted to go with the T4 but with the wife and the two kids, I'm not able to fold seats down and store it inside.
I'm not sure I would run it on top of a rig without being wrapped in another tarp or in another...
I looked in to camping at Edisto for the next 4 weeks and they’re booked for the weekends.
They require you to book for 2 nights and they are pretty pricey for a campsite.
If you make it down check out Swig & Swine BBQ in on Savannah Highway in Charleston.
Hey everyone, I'm Jon from Charleston, SC.
I have a little bit of experience overlanding but stopped in 2010 due to getting married, having kids, etc. Now that the kids are older, I want to introduce them to the adventure so we're currently researching what kind of rig we want and will be...
Edisto Beach State Park (https://southcarolinaparks.com/edisto-beach) has a campground on the ocean.
The road to Edisto Beach is full of ancient oaks that cover the road, dotted by plantations, and is not crowded by tourists.
Further south is Hunting Island State Park...
