I'd take the few options you do have and run with it. You'll enjoy it all the same and it will take you anywhere you want to go within reason. Obviously I dont consider rock crawling within reason unless you want to tear it up for no good reason IMO !!

How did you know the 4runner box would fit your LTD4 ? Why did the boxes you built for the front need to have tapered sides when the top is square ?
Is the whole platform roughly the height og your wheel wells inside your rig ?

I think the max coupler is really needed on those sketchy up and down narrow trail roads. Sooner or later I will get one for my 6x10 cargo trailer conversion for when I dare to go on more sketchy roads.

I agree that IF you overland full time the only way to go is solar combined with your auto and a battery bank of some sort. There is a big difference between living on the road and being stationary. To build a solar system for a home is a huge expense over a simple system for your traveling rig...
