A few months back my brother, me and a friend took a three day trip into the Allegheny National Forest. Although the trip was short, and we had to send a rig home on a flat bed it was a great trip. Here is a picture from our first nights camp site.
I haven't put that much into mine yet... I'm sure I will. But the rust is what's killing me. That was half of it now I have to get the rockers done. They aren't bad yet but I want to do them before they get too bad. I also completely undercoated every inch of the bottom when I had the gas tank...
And here is the finished product. Everything seam sealed and undercoated underneath. It took 6 days from dawn till dusk of work but I managed to replace what would be a $1,500 worth of rust repair for around $200 and a couple pizza's for my friends.
I then ground down the welds and body worked the panels. This picture after body work and a coat of primer. The hole in the center is where a bracket will be riveted on to hold the end cap.
Yes you are lucky!! I got pretty much scammed by the previous owner.... I was told a lot of things that were not true on this vehicle but all my life I always wanted to keep my first vehicle no matter what. So that means fixing all of the rust! It also has rocker rust that was covered with bondo...
Finally we welded on the outer pieces along with a support bar by the wheel well. This allows for as much or more strength than factory but no place for the mud and salt to collect. I am hopeful that I will never have to re-visit this problem again!
I Immediately ordered two factory replacement panels and began to design a new inner piece that wouldn't collect water and mud so it would not rust again. Here is the passenger side cut out completely.
