My Ham Shack- Yaesu FT-2900- Icom IC-7100, and a leap into the digital world of radio

I love DIY and I think that is the direction I will be looking to go. Already have an APRS rig that works via VOX and have good results with it.

All good info. I might reach out and try to do contact if I get a WinLink rig up and running. Thanks for the start in a direction.

My Ham Shack- Yaesu FT-2900- Icom IC-7100, and a leap into the digital world of radio

Yea. I have been looking at doing the RaspberryPi. Seems to have a lot more options and a lot cheaper than a TNC . I also what to be able to integrate it into my mobile rig. Right now my Truck is my ham shack. Easy to move but not always the most convenient when you want to just sit around...

My Ham Shack- Yaesu FT-2900- Icom IC-7100, and a leap into the digital world of radio

Cool. Also thinking about getting more involved with ARES. So WinLink looks like it might be a good starting point. I have also been seeing a lot about JS8Call so that might be number 2 on the list. Thanks. 73.

What digital modes are you running? Been thinking of jumping down that rabbit hole but trying to figure out where to start. Winlink, RTTY , FT8CALL and so on?

    Expanded Technician HF voice privileges

I think that anyone who wants's to get on HF should upgrade. As a tech I tried to play on the little bit of 10M and 6M that was available to us at that time. It was limited and not all that successful but it also drove me to get my general. Now I really don't hang out on the local repeaters...

    Ham Radio - HF/VHF/UHF

I run an Android tablet as well. I use it with APRSdroid liked to Back Country Navigator. This allows me to run topo maps offline and superimpose APRS info over top of the maps. I just hooked up the tablet to a handheld Kenwood with a cable and APRS can transmit over the air and does not need...

No one says you have to use Q sings. To be honest I think I've heard more of them tried to be used on the local 2m repeaters than on HF. Don't be afraid to as someone to to clarify if they throwing at you. There are a few that are just part of the vernacular. You'll pick them up as you here...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Took the afternoon off and took my Xterra out in the desert so it could turn 150k in a proper way. In the dirt and in 4 wheel drive. May sound sappy bit all 150k are mine as well as the dents and AZ pinstripes.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Really beautiful place. I like how you set up the shade for the Jeep. Doesn't seem to help the lady and the shot much but you have to have priorities right. [emoji6] [emoji106]

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is Ready to Rumble

That does look sexy. [emoji41] [emoji106] Didn't Jeep do this before with the Scrambler? Always thought those look neat but the departure angle was way out there for a Jeep. All to talk of price! I guess I'll be holding on to my Xterra for a while longer. Seems to me the hidden cost to...

    Overland Bound Ham Radio Net

I would suggest that if this is going to be a regular thing and once we dial in the time and location we amend the first post to list that info. This will give an easy reference for everyone to view.

Great hearing everyone who made it. I was hoping to log in from an actual radio but it would appear that the linked radios in my area are all restricted these days. As requested here is the 4x4ham.com website asked for. http://www.4x4ham.com/activity.php? There is some good info and good...
