Yea. I have been looking at doing the RaspberryPi. Seems to have a lot more options and a lot cheaper than a TNC . I also what to be able to integrate it into my mobile rig. Right now my Truck is my ham shack. Easy to move but not always the most convenient when you want to just sit around...
Cool. Also thinking about getting more involved with ARES. So WinLink looks like it might be a good starting point. I have also been seeing a lot about JS8Call so that might be number 2 on the list.

What digital modes are you running? Been thinking of jumping down that rabbit hole but trying to figure out where to start. Winlink, RTTY , FT8CALL and so on?
I think that anyone who wants's to get on HF should upgrade. As a tech I tried to play on the little bit of 10M and 6M that was available to us at that time. It was limited and not all that successful but it also drove me to get my general. Now I really don't hang out on the local repeaters...
I run an Android tablet as well. I use it with APRSdroid liked to Back Country Navigator. This allows me to run topo maps offline and superimpose APRS info over top of the maps. I just hooked up the tablet to a handheld Kenwood with a cable and APRS can transmit over the air and does not need...
No one says you have to use Q sings. To be honest I think I've heard more of them tried to be used on the local 2m repeaters than on HF.

Took the afternoon off and took my Xterra out in the desert so it could turn 150k in a proper way. In the dirt and in 4 wheel drive.
May sound sappy bit all 150k are mine as well as the dents and AZ pinstripes.
